look, there is will – the youngest brother, who is always taken care of by his mom, dad, and sister, who has 100+ people coming to his games to support him, who is always accompanied by someone, even when it’s not really necessary, and who gets picked up from the airport by his family with heartwarming signs.

and then there is mack – the middle child of his family, who has two younger siblings that his parents have to worry about and take care of, who is usually alone and stuck in his own head, whose family is barely at his games, who isn’t picked up from the airport after yet another exhausting and heartwrenching experience of his life, and who has to take a taxi and put all his things in the trunk himself.

the thing is… it just happens to be this way, and both situations are completely normal.

but what if one day WILL picks MACK up from the airport?

he meets him with a smile and a heartwarming “welcome home, mackie! we missed you ♡” sign. he hugs him tightly, breathing in the subtle smell of his shampoo, thinking about the 6,000 miles mack had to conquer to get back to him – back to will. then he takes his bags and equipment, puts them in the trunk of his bronco, starts the car, and pulls onto the road. while driving, he can’t help but keep glancing at mack, so instead he just puts his hand on mack’s thigh and quietly asks, “are you okay?”, and mack just smiles back and says, “thank you.”

yes, it’s okay to be independent and to have no one waiting for you at the airport. but oh man... how comforting it feels to finally be taken care of after being strong for so long.

i do think, that, in the end, this will become their constant: knowing that they are loved, that they have a home in each other, and that wherever they go, they will always have someone to come back to.
