On Saturday 7th March 2015, Bolton FM hosted “Strictly Learn to Dance”; a charity fundraising event in aid of Bolton Hospice. The event attracted near a thousand people and raised tens of thousands - a huge success.
At the event, a live projection was needed to better the audience’s experience. I worked with the station’s technical team to stream a live video feed from three SDI inputs, advertisements and chroma keyed overlay. We used an industry standard ATEM Television Studio, a live production switcher and Canon XA25′s to perform our coverage. Post production, I was then tasked with editing a combined 20 hours of footage from the 5 hour event and producing web stream highlights and a DVD to help raise further funds. The editing process is one that I am still working on, 2 weeks later.
During the event, my role was cameraman where maintaining a steady image keeping note of angle, exposure, focus and where the 350 metre SDI cable coming from my rig was were key.
Editing 10 channels of video and audio, near 500GB of data, this is certainly the largest project I have worked on. My home editing setup is one that suits me well having used the Sony Vegas software package for over 5 years. Industry today focuses more on Adobe and AVID’s offerings, but I am skilled enough with Vegas to push it’s tools to rival that of more industry influence across media.
Weeks later, the final edit was completed and copies burned to DVDs to raise further funds for the hospice. As part of the final 2 hour production, professional dancers and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Michael Johnson and Sally Rose Beardall performed at Strictly Learn to Dance, with the full performance added as bonus content. The following IS an example of my own work, part of a small multi-cam production team directed and edited by myself.
