authors: Melinda K. Ehrich and Lora A. Harris
Why I like it: The authors carefully compare three existing oyster filtration models and present an alternative, individual based model. I particularly liked the way they explained their motivation: "Modelers rarely highlight [structural and performance] differences and focus instead on calibration, “tuning” or “fitting”, parameters so that output of state variables match available data. This results in greater uncertainty in what factors are driving a given rate process, and negate the utility of using modeling as a means to explore hypotheses."
