Stuart was walking you home after work at Google, living only a few minutes away from your home. He kept fiddling with his beanie in his hands, having taken it off of his head about half way through the walk. Something was bugging him and you knew it, sliding your arm around his and bumping his hip with yours. “What’s up, grumpy? You haven’t spoken a word this whole time we’ve been walking.” You pout, knowing that Stuart isn’t so invested in his phone when he’s around you. He isn’t as shut off when it comes to you, hence why you caught on so quickly as to why he was being so quiet. The fidgeting of his beanie started to frustrate you since he didn’t seem to even hear your question, being so lost in his own head. You snatch the fabric out from his grasp and pull the warm item of clothing over your head. “Talk to me, Stu. I’m starting to get worried.” You frown, noticing that the two of you were now out the front of your house. You made no effort to go inside, staying by Stuart until you knew he was okay. “I don’t know, Y/n. I’m just lost in my thoughts is all. I’m fine” He lies and you frown more intensely than before. “Stu, you’re my best friend. I know when something’s up… You can tell me anything, you know that, right?” You ask, stepping to stand in front of him, letting your arm fall from his but catching his hand in yours. Stuart makes no effort to speak, stuffing his free hand into his jeans pocket and tilting his head to the ground. “I’m not gonna go inside until you tell me what’s wrong. I can tell there’s a part of you that wants to tell me… You know I’m never this pushy, but I feel like you want me to know” You smile softly, trying to warm him up to the idea of opening up. He nods slowly and looks at you with a nervous stare which causes you to squeeze his hand for comfort. “I just… I… I mean…” Stuart stumbles around with his words, scratching the back of his head as he tries to piece together what he’s trying to say. Groaning to himself, he takes his hand out of yours and holds a finger up as if to say ‘hand on a second.’ He reaches into his back pocket and pulls out his phone, quickly typing away and glancing up at you after taking a deep breath and pressing send. Seconds later your phone dings with a notification. You take it from your pocket and unlock the screen, going into messages and seeing what Stuart had sent you. You can’ help the gasp that leaves your lips as you read the words: ‘I love you’. You glance up at Stuart before typing out a reply quickly. His phone dings and he reads the message. A smile pulls at his lips before he tucks his phone away and steps to you quickly. His hand finds your waist as he pulls you in for a romantically cheesy kiss. ‘I love you, too’ being the message that lead you to having his lips on yours.
