Torso Prints

In process of printing onto wallpaper, I created a series of prints in my sketchbook. These are the trials and tests before applying to the wallpaper. Limited stock of the wallpaper meant that printing onto the remaining strips for exhibition needed to go well. I used my sketchbook to document the process and test the amounts and consistency of the paint on my body.

I ended up really liking the outcome of this sketch book. Placed against a white background without conscious consideration for composition and angles, the pieces become like an abstract landscape. I was particular suprised by the breast which produced a oddly circular shape. Most of the prints are absurd and difficult to identify (especially the arm prints).

Finally got to do an induction on the sewing machines. I have only used ever used a sewing machine at college and I really enjoyed it! Sue showed me the basics and how to change the thread ect then I had a little play. I used some iron on interfacing then sewed on top. This was an interesting technique which I had never heard of before! 

Sue gave me some artists to have a look at that use this technique who included MEREDITH WOOLNOUGH. Her work looks so intricate and perfect! It was definitely a hard technique or maybe it was because I’m not used to sewing.

Using inspiration from Tomasz Mro I created this ballpoint pen drawing. This has been very successful as I wanted to create a two colour overlapping portrait drawing. I chose these images to draw as I wanted to use one eye of each photo and combine them. I chose to use green and pink ink to draw as these are contrasting colours and I knew this would be most effective and to get the best outcome.

Using red acrylic paint and my fingers i want to create a smudged lipstick effect. Using the colour red gives the impression of anger or intimacy. As ive drawn a black biro drawing with red lips i wanted to draw the attention to the lips. By adding the smudge i managed to create an eye catching feature to this piece.

I decided to use a needle and thread to create this piece. I decided to use yellow thread as yellow is a colour of happiness and joy and fits perfectly with the smile on my mums face. I left the thread uncut using inspiration from Victoria Villsana. Leaving the threads uncut is like an unfinished story/memory. I really like this piece and how the thread hangs loose. If i hung this outside the threads would blows in any draft making this a very effective piece.

Using a needle and thread i recreated my own work using Lisa Kokin as my inspiration. I really like the outcome of this piece as it’s something that i haven’t done before. Whilst I was creating this piece it reminded me of a family tree and seeing the generations of my family. This made this piece very personal to me and was very intricate to do as the thread is delicate. I was sewing into paper which made it difficult as I was wary of the paper ripping. 

This piece has been very successful.

I really like using the folding technique to distort the face. This has been a successful technique that ive used throughout my project. Using folding has helped me to create small and quick work which has been very good for experimentation.
