College Help

So, it's time for the college thing. I have to start applying to colleges and auditioning around the country (or even outside of the country that’d be cool). This is honestly kinda terrifying, but I’m excited to study what I love. If you have any advice on auditions for college, and how to kinda shake the anxiety of it, it’d be much appreciated! 

And if you happen to be studying or have studied acting, I wouldn’t mind a few words of advice, and maybe some recommendations on where I should apply to?

where did you audition to drama school? what were you monolouges? where did you get accepted? JUST TELL ME EVERYTHING BC ILY AND I LOVE DRAMA SCHOOLS (im applying to rose bruford, italia conti, rada, and lamda the year after next)

Biiiiigg Drama school personal advice stuff haha

Ahhhh! Well you probably know it’s like one of the hardest industries to get into and drama school comes into that. My biggest bit of advice is not to take rejection too hard because you will get rejected from places and it won’t be because you were a bad actor. These places look for specific different things each year. For example one audition I went to they decided they only wanted guys for the seconds round and after making us pay £40 for the audition made us all go home.

Which leads to my second point, save up! It costs SO MUCH money auditioning, not just for the audition itself (anything for £30-£60) but also for travelling/lunch..etc etc.I got rejected from the majority of my first auditions because I was too young, which is common, most of the people auditioning with me were 23+ Which is why I decided to go do a 2 year foundation course in acting (which i’m currently on) before reapplying for bigger schools next year. Totally was the best decision I’VE EVER MADE doing a foundation. I’ve learnt so much and have seriously become far more mature and gained far more skills and could totally see why I didn’t get in many places first time round. I’m in a smaller drama center in southern England and it’s worth thinking further than just London schools. Having got friends that go to London drama schools made me realise my course offers a lot more workshops/tutor hours/guest classes at a lower price than a lot of my friends. So seriously worth looking beyond the big names.Monologues are tricky, they can’t be too well known but also no too far fetched. Definitely have two very contrasting pieces and don’t fall into cliches. READ THE WHOLE SCRIPTS for both classic and contemp. I’ve watched soooo many people suddenly be asked what part of the play their monologue came from and they’ve had no clue. If you have a tutor who knows you well ask them what they think will suit you, or some interesting plays to give a read.If you don’t like a place you audition at, don’t feel you should. It’s hard to explain this one, but when I auditioned places I felt I should ‘like them’ as they were big names but I didn’t feel comfortable in the building or didn’t like their methods. Remember this is 3 or 4 years of life and costing you SO much money, be somewhere you love.Be generally awesome in auditions, by this I mean smile and be the friendliest most willing person ever. After all, they want someone they will work with for years. Sooooo after that novel my main advice is…Don’t give up! (takes some people years and years)Look beyond big names.Be very very prepared.Consider also applying for foundation courses or extended college courses.Good luck! :D

(Also the lamda auditions are freakin scary, they don’t even let you talk apart from your pieces and you have to stand on a line on the floor and not even acknowledge the panel D: Then again RADA was pretty scary too, I had to wait 2 hours on my own in a small room haha)
