Some studies in my sketchbook, trying to experiment more with line and line expression. The second is a study of cartoonist Hanco Kolk and the characters in his graphic novel Meccano. The first and third are me trying to draw Peter Lorre in a semi-stylised way, mostly using a nib pen or a bamboo pen. The fourth one was inspired by @juicedsumo ‘s suggestion to try out a wooden skewer, which was a really nice experiment!
I went to the Gemeentemuseum (now known as Kunstmuseum) today, and I saw A. R. Penck! Love this man, absolutely fantastic. I LOVE how he was trying to create a type of painted language and was using said language to mildly mock the powers that were in his time (DDR, Soviet Union). The work is highly political, which means it’s perfect for me! I tried a little Penck myself, trying to imitate what I think is his technique (lots of paint on a dry pig bristled brush), which is pretty damn hard! I drew Miss Corona here, but it could be any subject.
