My Thoroughbred, looking like a filly!
Yes, you are seeing right! Shylo and I now ride without reins! I have her halter on for extra safety. We are still working on steering with just my legs.
Some changes...
After adding a third mare to my "herd" (It's officially a herd!!!), I feel it appropriate to change this blog to be about all 3 of my horses, and the training happening with all 3 of them. :)
Free jumping Shylo!
Shylo learning how to pull!!!
Jump standards!!!
Dad built me a pair of jump standards!!! They work great. :)
I have some video footage of Shylo free-jumping that I'll edit and put on youtube!!!
She did really well. watching her figure out the jumps made me realize what I need to help her focus on. The main thing is keeping her calm to the jumps. Meaning I'll be doing a bunch of trot poles with her, as well as canter poles, and eventually move them in front of a jump.
Lunging Shylo...
I didn't update on the past couple days as there wasn't really anything to update on. Decided to lunge her today to see if she was still sore or not. Result? I have rope burn, and she is NOT lame! She does, however, think she's a Lipizzaner... or a rodeo horse.... Picture the following, but with Shylo doing it, and that's what happened.
Proud Flesh...
Well, her wound has started growing proud flesh. Once I get the ok from the vet, I'll be cutting it off at skin level. Re-applied everything today. She really isn't happy with me. It looks worse. Hoping to give Doug, my vet, a call a bit later and see what I can put on it. For now it's wrapped like the photo below. Polo, with a jumper boot on. Jumper boot is VERY loose, enough to stay on but not enough to cause any pressure anywhere.
