HaHa~, Sora is full of energy! ♪

Yuuta: Oh… Umm, Harukawa-kun. W-What are you here for?

Sora: Sora’s here for nutritional intake! Since it's a dining hall! HiHi~, isn’t Hina-chan here for the same?

Yuuta: Errmm… By “Hina-chan”, I assume you mean my Aniki?

Since the other day, Aniki bragged about making a friend with a kid from my class.

Sora: HuHu~♪ Correct, Sora and Hina-chan have become BFFs!

Yuuta: BFFs, huh… You have a peculiar way of speaking, just like all the other kids in our class.

But, Harukawa-kun, I’m not “Hina-chan”.

Sora: Hm~? But, the color is the same! This is hard~.

Sorry, did Sora mistake for the wrong person?

Sora: Sora’s not good with complicated things! Can it be explained in an easy to understand way, like Shisho~ does?

Yuuta: No, I can’t blame you for not being able to tell us apart. We’re twins.

Sora: Twins? Like a twin-humped camel?

They have a lot of water stored in the humps~, Senpai taught Sora a lot of useless trivia like that! ♪

Sora: Thanks to Shisho~ and Senpai, Sora doesn’t feel suffocated even at ground level! HeHe~♪

Yuuta: Umm, this is barely a conversation…

Anyways, did you have something to do with Aniki, Harukawa-kun? I can pass on a message to him if you need, I see him a lot since we’re brothers and all.

Sora: Brothers? So twins are siblings? Sora learned something new again!

Thanks! Sora is grateful to be taught something by…! Umm…?

Yuuta: Ahh, I’m Yuuta. We’re in the same class, so you should try to remember my name.

Sora: Yes! Once Sora learns, he never forgets! ♪

Yuuta: Alright, let’s get along, then. Would you like to join me for lunch?

Sora: HoHo~♪ Let’s do that, sharing a table with another makes it all the happier~! ♪

Yuuta: You’re right. Here, sit down then. Have you bought your food ticket yet?

Sora: Nope! But, Sora has plenty of food tickets from before when the food vending machine malfunctioned! So he can eat as much as he wants, for free everyday!

Yuuta: No, you should pay for your food. I feel like you’re missing a lot of common sense here and there…

Sora: Sora’s told that often! Sora doesn’t have money with him right now, so he’ll pay for all of it later, okay?

Money has a murky color, so he’s not really good with it~! ♪

Yuuta: Color…? Oh right, don’t you discern things like sound and smell as colors, Harukawa-kun?

I think I remember Aniki mentioning something like that. What’s that like for you?

Sora: Hmm~? Sora’s asked that a lot, but he doesn’t know how to explain~. Sora doesn’t know how everyone else sees the world either.

Yuuta: Ohh… That makes sense, I understand.

I’m also asked things like “what’s it like to have a twin?” and “what’s it like to have someone with the same face as you?” all the time, but I never know how to answer.

Sora: Is that so~? But, explaining the unexplainable is possible through song~! And so Sora sings, HaHiHuHeHo~…♪

Yuuta: D-Don’t go doing anything too outlandish…

Hmm… Given you seem to do whatever you want with no consideration to anyone around you, I can see why you and Aniki get along so well.

Sora: Is that so? Hina-chan is always considerate to his surroundings, though~. He has that color!

Yuuta: Yeah, no, I can’t understand explanations through color.

Umm… Harukawa-kun, don’t worry about ordering yourself food. Actually, could you help me finish this instead?

Sora: This one? Or that one?

Yuuta: This one, this one. I’m a big eater, so I’m always eating a lot, y’know, but…

Then the lunch man gave me a dessert as a thank you for always enjoying their food.

I got some leftover cake as a freebie, I guess.

I’m really not good with sweets, though… But it was given to me so kindly, so I don’t want it to go uneaten.

I’ve been doing my best fighting at it, but… I don’t think I can finish it. So if you can help me out with that, that’d be great.

Are you alright with sweet things, Harukawa-kun?

Sora: Yes! Sweets are the color of happiness! ♪

Yuuta: Gotcha. Then here, eat up! ♪

Sora: Thanks for the food! Sora says that before he eats! Chomp chomp ♪

Yuuta: Ahaha, I feel like I’m feeding a small animal… You really do do well with sweets, huh, Harukawa-kun~.

Then I’m sure you’ll get along just fine with Aniki. That guy has a sweet tooth.

Sora: Hm~? Then why is it that Hina-chan’s always giving Sora his sweets?

His color didn’t really seem like he “liked” them~? That’s why Sora thought he was unloading them onto Sora. This is complicated~. Chomp chomp ♪

Yuuta: …Is that so. Seems I was right.

Hey, Harukawa-kun. So my color is the same as Aniki’s?

Sora: It’s the same! That’s why Sora saw wrong earlier! Sorry! ♪

If he looks closely, it’s painted a bit differently, though~? Yours is watercolor, and Hina-chan’s is oil paint!

The end result is of the same color, but the process is different~! Does the explanation make sense?

Yuuta: Not really. But if we still have the same color, then… I have mixed feelings about it, but it’s kind of a relief.

Sora: ? Sounds complicated…

Yuuta: You’re right, it is complicated. That’s how family issues are.

Rinne: Me~rumerumerumeru ♪

HiMERU: —While you are making strange animal noises, HiMERU would like to request that you stay away from him.

Rinne: Don’t be so boring. I’m just here to research what kind of souvenirs Merumeru can pick up for me, since you’re leaving tomorrow for that South Island and all. [1]

Well, I’m not really familiar with that island. What kind of classics do they got there?

HiMERU: HiMERU is not very well-informed on this subject, but he believes the common souvenir would be Chinsuko. [2]

In short, to continue to claim that it's research while assuming that HiMERU will buy you souvenirs is the equivalent to simply demanding them.

Rinne: You might call it begging, but I’ve been told it’s rather cute. Rinne-kun is looking forward to seeing Merumeru’s souvenirs. ☆

HiMERU: To say things like, “Don’t say it,” then “Say it,” surely you must be joking around today, Amagi.

I wish for us to cut to the chase. It can’t be the case that you came here to extort me for souvenirs, yes?

Rinne: You really saved me from havin’ to say any more, huh. Anyways, I’ve been lookin’ for you since I got no response from you guys, you know?

HiMERU: Response…?

Rinne: I sent three messages, you know? I didn’t get a single reply or reaction, so I got kinda lonely, yeah~?

There are indeed three messages. HiMERU has his notifications turned off, so it appears that he did not notice.

However, HiMERU is not the only one to not reply to you, Amagi. Oukawa and Shiina are also completely unresponsive.

Rinne: That’s the thing. Even if there was a reason for you guys to decide to turn off notifs, all three of you ghostin’ me at once’s a bit much, ya know?

You guys really broke my sensitive heart. I’m weepin’......

HiMERU: (Ignoring him) Considering that no one replied, and that you have come looking expressly for him means that surely HiMERU is not spared from attending this meeting.

Rinne: Of course. It’s a pep party for Merumeru ‘cause you got chosen by the company office for that solo gig and all. ♪

There’s nothin’ to talk about if we don’t have the leading star. 

HiMERU: Huh. No matter how hard you try, Amagi, you really like holding these kinds of dinner parties.

Even in the case where HiMERU was chosen to be a part of “Midnight Butlers”, you had quickly gathered all members of Crazy: B. 

At the time, I had simply thought it a whim, spurred on by a good gambling payout but…

Rinne: It ain’t a whim at all. When there’s something happy goin’ on, we celebrate it and we eat and drink to cheer ourselves up. It's simply a matter of course.

If you’ve got a reason to hold a pep party, Niki’d happily want to show off his talents, you know? And I’m sure you'd be happy to have a good meal every time, on top of it all.

Kohaku-chan, too, he likes the food that Niki whips up, or maybe he just likes his company, who knows. He eats a lot, too.

Merumeru, anyways, you're always at your seat before the meeting time, so even you're never late for when we meet up, huh?

HiMERU: —Late arrivals are against HiMERU's aesthetics.

Rinne: Don’t be such a dead fish. If we all get together like that, of course we can have a tasty meal, and it's all good, you know?

And best of all, up until now, I’ve never lost a gamble I’ve made right before a pep party, winning everything flawlessly! How could I not take advantage of this rule? ♪

HiMERU: …Gambling, was it?

Rinne: Oh. So if I’m gonna win today, I’m gonna need a pep party, got it? You understand?

HiMERU: I do not understand, however. While it appeared that we were just talking about Shiina’s excellent dinners, you were really just thinking about whether or not you would be able to line your pockets, Amagi?

Whether you take a loss, or earn a profit, HiMERU is truly not concerned.

Rinne: No, no. Doesn’t concern you? If I win, some of that profit could maybe go into the party, you know?

You could buy some luxury ingredients and let Niki cook however he wants, for example. You could even get some high-end sweets.

HiMERU: Well, it would be better to fill our stomachs than to line your pockets, I suppose.

To begin with, the idea of feeding HiMERU, who will start filming tomorrow, to his heart’s content the night before is simply ridiculous.

Rinne: Well, you'll have to make it up to me by using your energy for the photo shoot.

…Can't we just call it even?

HiMERU: —If you are wanting to peek into HiMERU’s state of affairs this late stage, next time, and thereon after, please think about that before you attempt to contact him.

Rinne: Oh? There’s a next time?

HiMERU: HiMERU will participate this time, but not without Oukawa and Shiina. Please make sure that both of them are present.

Rinne: OK ♪ So I’ll just send something like, “Merumeru’s confirmed to go so you two better say you’re coming, too.” and we’re good.

Hey, you should post something small like, “Yes, I consented.”

It’s kinda sad that it’s just been me postin’ anything this whole time, you know?

HiMERU: Hmm. It would be problematic if those two did not participate. To assure that they will not think your words are false, HiMERU will accompany you.

Rinne: You’re really bringin’ my self-confidence down, you know…?

Well, whatever. Now that the party’s gonna go smoothly, there’s only one thing left for me to do!

This good old Rinne-kun will have to win, and win, and win, until he’s able to prove his theory that he never loses before a pep party!

HiMERU: —Fufu. So if Amagi comes back after losing and losing, will the party be canceled?

Rinne: I'm not going to let that happen. I'll come back with warmer pockets than that South Island.

Maybe if it gets too warm, then it won’t be a  pep party for you, but perhaps a victory banquet for me ♪

Well, anyways, Let’s meet up at Cinnamon tonight! Wait at the edge of your seat for the outcome of this one Rinne-kun’s victory or defeat…☆

HiMERU: ……

Well, well. He said whatever he liked, then walked right off.

Once Amagi sends his confirmation, HiMERU was going to add, “The above-mentioned gathering will be a treat solely from the warmth and generosity of Amagi’s own pocket.”

The story:

Some of the first members of the 2nd Unit, these two are opposites in the truest sense. You have Kazusa, who is the erudite with the tastes to match, and Yutaka, who is boisterous with down to earth tastes. Each lending their skills to what will become the 2nd unit. 

In this sub-story, you see what they initially think of each other when they are paired together as they are paired together in tackling some serial robberies. They touch on Yutaka’s past with his sister, and how his personal feelings have touched on his life as a cop. 

My recommendation:

I found the ending very rushed and left a lot to be desired. They bring up this core plot of Yuzuki’s attack and how Yutaka feels about it when he first joins the 2nd Unit. This plot element carries through 2 chapters as Kazusa and Yutaka connect the dots between their current case and the past, but then they just leave the reader hanging, favoring to flash forward to where they are now as a team. It feel very disconnected and abrupt. It would have been better if they concentrated on the past rather trying to connect it to where the 2nd Unit is today. 

I would’ve liked to see the two of them work through what Yutaka’s feelings about Yuzuki’s case, and in turn become a better team as a result.

Should I purchase it at full price?

Simple answer: no. Metro PD has better sub stories that give you more character depth.
