Shang Tsung: Old friend, Pet, Thunder God, the Light That Split The Skies, and a great many more for the deity he has been so thoroughly taken by.

Tanya: Angelface, beloved, my dear, sweetheart, 'Leena

Kang: No nicknames, I'm afraid!! But he and Lao address each other very casually as an intimacy ie. 'a-Lao'

Kuai Liang: 'My Fire' is the one meaningful moniker he has attached to Hanzo, barring his title on the battlefield, naturally.

Clark, if married to Bruce: 'B'/if married to Lois: 'Lo

Pamela, when she inevitably pops the question: Harls, my love

Gat, in me an' @bastardsunlight's funny 'I married my best friend and forgot to divorce 'em because I'm wanted in 3 counties' turned 'so uh. wanna get married for realsies or what' take: Boss, fucker, dickhead, babe

Otacon: Dave, Snake, 'Mr. Emmerich' (weeps)

Vegeta: He really, really isn't one for nicknames, but every so often he and Piccolo will start flirting competitively and bring in any uncomfortably saccharine or sensual pet name they can think of in an effort to get the other to crack and kiss him. It's very effective.

Sub-Zero, what made you look at a flaming ball of ire and fury and say "I want that one"?

The Grandmaster sat in deep contemplation, eyes closed against the light and wind. Arctika at sunrise was a landscape for meditation and reflection. Sub-Zero did not open his eyes to address the inquiry, nor did he react in any particular manner that telegraphed his readiness to go to arms for the honor of his lover, should the conversation take that course. However, he had enough security to reason that things wouldn’t go that far.

“He is intense. I like that.” Present tense. Because for all the changes the years have brought, Hanzo Hasashi remained the same spitfire of a man that he’d been in the days of their prime, passionate and determined. A constant which enchanted Kuai Liang.

“Now go, before I find something for you to do.” The ice orchids are always in need of a good tending.

Mortal Kombat Muses and Names

Every so often I see a post or two asking about name orders for some of the characters of Asian descent in the series because of how weird and unclear the canon’s been about what the RIGHT order is and it’s made me think. So for fun I’m going to list under the cut my take here on the name orders/how I differentiate them between my three Mortal Kombat characters, as they’re all ethnically Chinese. 

Alright so, as we know... Mortal Kombat was written by white dudes. It’s got a lot in the way of Asian aesthetic and convention based on its homages to various martial arts action films, etc. But somehow we’ve never really gotten any clarification on for example, whether Liu is the guy’s first or last name because of how media tends to address him as if that’s the first name and not the family name as is part of the Chinese convention. With that said, here’s how it goes for my portrayals:

Shang Tsung: Shang is the family name, Tsung is the first name. However, that doesn’t much matter when your go to moniker is “Sorcerer” and an accusatory cry of your full name and all its grandeur. Do not call him Shang, and certainly don’t call him Tsung unless you happen to be a certain deity with an intimate history. Otherwise, assuming familiarity can have very deadly consequences. 

Sub-Zero: Kuai Liang is his entire first name, much like how Bi-Han’s entire name is just that. There is no family name. I don’t particularly think that last names are of any cultural importance to the Lin Kuei? This is based on how something as simple as friendship is outright banned due to the traditional belief that one’s dedication is to the group, and the group alone. So Kuai Liang is without a last name until he marries Hanzo. People will typically address him by his title or full name. Only those are very close to him call him ‘Liang’

Liu Kang: Following the habit of the 1995 and 1997 movie and the habits of certain games (looking at you Rayden), the MK95 and NRS portrayals of Liu Kang will assume that Liu is the first name and that Kang is the last. He just goes by the switched order for some reason or the other. I will expand on 95 Liu specifically in the future, so the technical proper arrangement of his name by cultural convention is ‘Kang Liu’, Liu for short.

Since the 2021 film is a completely new take on the character, his name will follow the proper Chinese naming convention with Liu as the family name and Kang as the given name.

What is a kink your muse has? How would they bring it up to their partner? [Sub-Zero]

See. That implies that his partner doesn’t already know. A surefire way to get Sub-Zero from point A to point B is to fight him. I’m talking knives and spears out, fists flying, the whole deal. Kombat is like courting for a man like him, and luckily, his partner is keen on this. Seeing as they’ve been knocking the shit out of each other for two decades.

Sub-Zero (The affair was anything but quiet. As per Shirai-Ryu tradition, he fought for Scorpion’s hand. What their guests didn’t anticipate was the Lin Kuei fighting the groom to be himself. )

Anakin (quiet and clandestine. Padme’s hands and her heart were his company as they spoke their vows)

Otacon (He and Snake never got around to the ceremony, saving the world and all. But a silver band sits under the collar of his turtleneck, attached to a dogtag style necklace)

Unmarried muses who WANT weddings:

Kurt (He wants all of his friends to be there. Plenty of wine and whiskey and song, the whole 9 yards. He is a circus boy at heart, and cannot possibly deny the appeal of spectacle, of being witnessed in love and as free as he’d been while flying through the air as an acrobat. All the freer for the fight )

Ororo (A little bit of tradition, little bit of the new. It’s a celebration, it should feel like one! She favors an outdoor wedding, where the sun is no large feat for a goddess, and where gold bathes her beloved when the ‘I do’ leaves their lips.

Liu Kang (Simple. A garden wedding nearing sunset. Flowing fabric and the hand of his beloved in his. They’d reach the end of their vows minutes before the sun descends and the stars illuminate the face of his most treasured person.)

a stolen chance, a missed opportunity

sad, isn’t it? i heard (mind you, this was at a very shady tarot card reading place i went to for fun) that there’s a good chance that most people have met their soulmate, but they missed them. maybe they loved someone else. maybe they left your life. i hope that even though you’ve missed them, you find closure, and you find someone else who loves as hard as you do.

a sweet lullaby

my sister and i used to make up nonsensical lullabies for my younger brother when he was little so he’d go to sleep and the laughter that engulfed the room at the time is what your soulmate would be like. no matter how weird the rhyme, it would always end with an “i love you” and a boop on the nose, and somehow, even if the lullaby was more befitting of a sea shanty, my brother would fall asleep. i wish you sleepful nights with sweet dreams, next to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

His preference for mint tea comes from a memory buried deep in his subconscious, a remnant of a time where children lack the awareness to do more than absorb aspects of the world around him.
