Tell me about your Ocs!!
HOOLY SHIT DUDE. HOOOLY SHIT.
UNDER A READ MORE BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM OKAY AND THEIR STORY IS COMPLICATED I HOPE UR FUCKIN READY
First off, my OCs are not for any particular pre-existing work or fandom. I created them for a story I actually plan to publish - The Mayfly’s Funeral (it’s a pretentious name with a pretentious origin). I’m just gonna give a quick run-down of some of my faves since there are so many of them that if I tried to tell you all of them I'd be here all fucking week
The Mayfly’s Funeral is a story that answers the question nobody asked: what if the metaphors for homophobia and racism in X-Men were a whole lot less subtle? And what if it was gay as fuck also? A bunch of mutant kids hide from a government organization called IMP (the Initiative for Mutant Pacification) in an authoritarian, near-future America, that’s what happens.
Linda (Lynn)
The eighteen-year-old daughter of Rosie Robinson, a dead mutant rights activist. Her stepmother Esther has stowed Lynn and her brother away in an old abandoned factory situated in The Middle Of Fucking Nowhere, Arizona, in a feeble attempt to give them a somewhat normal life.
Besides being raised in total isolation, Lynn is (basically) normal. She likes knitting, reading magazines, astronomy, and is a powerful psychic with very little knowledge of her powers (I said basically).
She’s my favorite type of character - adorable sunshine child who gets sent to hell and back. She has a tendency to trust those who don’t have her best interests at heart and has absolutely no grasp of social norms, so it’s genuinely a miracle that she makes it into her adult years.
Fun fact: “The Mayfly’s Funeral” comes from an anecdote Lynn tells about her childhood in which she mourned and held a funeral for a dozen dead mayflies, despite the fact that they only live twenty-four hours. See? I told you the title’s origin was pretentious.
Roman
Lynn’s younger half-brother, the son of Rosie and a mutual male friend of Rosie and Esther’s (they couldn’t afford a sperm donor).
He has the same psychic powers as his sister but is less good at controlling them. He’s overly analytical for a fourteen-year-old and painfully awkward. The fact that he was raised in the middle of a desert really doesn’t help matters.
Still, he’s got a good head on his shoulders and is fiercely loyal when he needs to be. And hey, he knows how to use a gun so... that’s a plus.
Subject Seven
Seven is... we don’t know exactly what Seven is. The best we can speculate is that they are somehow related to Lynn and Roman, judging by the striking resemblance (and the shared powers). A failed clone? A hidden sibling?
Whatever they are, they’re a lost, recently-rescued kid first, one that shows disturbing unchildlike behavior up to and including an extensive knowledge of ways to kill a man.
Lynn adores them. Roman is terrified.
Charlotte (Charlie)
Fucking emo tryhard piece of shit goth waifu GOD I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
This FUCKING TRASH CHILD controls darkness and she’s the edgiest character I’ve ever conceived. She’s bad at emotions and feelings.
When life shoves a ball of hyperactive, kind, and overly caring ball of sunshine into her lap in the form of Linda Robinson, this gay loser has no fucking clue how to react and shows affection by making self-deprecating jokes and trying very hard to protect Lynn. Luckily for her, Lynn inexplicably has a thing for goth chicks.
Somehow, she’s the leader of their group of misfits. 17 years old.
James
My beautiful waterbender baby boy. Trans as fuck. 18 years old. Very very very ADD.
He cracks jokes to hide his sadness and is smarter than people give him credit for, but he doesn’t strive for anything above mediocrity because if he impresses people, they expect impressing things from him, and that fucking sucks.
He and Lynn are my two biggest comfort characters because they remind me the most of myself.
Elena (Eli)
James’s best friend (?) and co-leader of this group of fucking assholes. She’s by far the most rational one, and a combination of ambition, tactical smarts, sex appeal, and terrifying super-strength seem to make people want to listen to her.
She’s a devout Catholic but struggling with her faith (I put too much of myself into these characters I swear to GOD), but always pushes her own problems away to help others. She’s my mother and I’d gladly die for her any day.
She and James are Acceptable Heteros™. 18 years old.
