Fauna shaking Belle when she finds a new plant species and gets an award for it: BELLE I DID A GOOD THING IM AN ACTGUAL CREDITED SCIENTIST WHO MADE A DISCOVERY IM SO EXCIT-
It wasn’t often that Fauna and Belle got the octopod kitchen to themselves.
Most of the time it was full of the vegimals, peso preparing food for his medbay patients.
So right now?
Time they cherished.
Belle hummed as she washed the apples, fauna quietly chopping already cleaned ones.
Music played softly through the speaker Belle had setup on the far end of the kitchen, away from any stray dough.
“I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin-”
Belle laughed softly, Fauna looking up from the fruits on the cutting board, a confused look on her face.
“Do you- remember when we were kids?”
“I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin”
“Yeah of course.” Fauna chuckled, “How could I forget? running around in fields, hiding from the summer rain-”
“And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin”
“Picking berries, munching apples we stole from the orchards-” Belle added, the two laughed, remembering the short time from when they were kids, before the world weighed heavy, before they grew up. It was pleasant.
“And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go? So why don't we go?
Oh, this could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know”
“It feels like that, now- I guess” Belle admitted, it was soft and calm and full of joy. She was honest, it felt like being a kid again, feeling safe, happy, not a care in the world. It felt like that now, as the two worked on making apple pies for the group. They smiled and laughed a bit more. In this moment everything felt okay, and they were both sure the kids they used to be, that still lived deep down, were smiling as well.
Normally the octopod wasn’t so terrible shiver inducing, but due to the fact the temp control on the octopod was broken, and that they were in northern freaking Canada, it was pretty dang well…. Cold.
Captain had just been standing in the HQ when she trotted up to him, bundled in a jacket, and it’s her arms held out.
The others had been hiding in the med bay for most of the time, so seeing her having trudged all the way to the HQ just for cuddles, it made him smile.
He held his arms out, letting out a clear: “of course.”
Coco squealed, rushing over and jumping into his arms.
