The cure for vampirism had gained supporters and enemies alike, all of them willing to implement damage upon the world that the spirits tirelessly strive to keep at balance. Nothing could keep those in Mystic Falls at an impasse on the matter, however— not an Original vampire, nor a hunter of the Five could stop them from reaching the cure.
The spirits foresaw the hazardous imbalance both Silas’ awakening and the cure would bring to the world; they saw chaos and destruction working its way throughout the living and spirit world, and against strict rule, collectively made a decision.
They would give the vampire’s of Mystic Falls exactly what they wanted.
A spell was then cast so that every vampire’s body would be living once more— they were all turned human.
However, no great spell comes without consequence. For many of the residents of Mystic Falls— vampires, humans, witches and werewolves alike, the consequence came in the form of a time shift — everyone was transported into the future to the age of 30, though only some people are able to remember the transportation. For example, in the movie 13 going on 30, only Jenna remembers being transported into the future and does not know her place as her 30 year old self, where as Matt has lived out his life till 30 without being affected by the spell.
Everyone was affected, but only some people are knowledgable about the sudden transportation. Therefore there are two types of people in this verse:
Spellbound: Those who have lived out their lives till 30 and all assume that it was the cure that allowed them to do so; they do not question what happened all those years ago either way.
Aware: Those who were transported into their future of 30 and are misplaced in their own lives.
