I remember when your eyes

still held adoration.

Now August is half-spent,

and the warmth has slithered away.

Sweet and soft and easy

matured into a quiet cold doubt.

I step outside into the night,

I let the bitter rain wash over me -

cleanse me of the stifling heat,

numb this inescapable grief.

I close my eyes against the dark.

I feel the fleeting comfort on my skin

as the summer bleeds into fall.

Knowing that someday soon

you will be a memory

for longer than I ever knew you.

yellow is the third person in the series of if colours were people (a friend group)! 

yellow signifies hope, sunshine, summer, philosophy, dishonesty, idealism, caution, optimism, happiness, joy, deceit, illness, hazard and friendship. I would imagine this person to be the one saying ‘guys, is this really a good idea?’, especially to red and orange, but joins in or helps them out anyway because they love their friends so much and also because they have so much energy. probably lies a lot, but their friends can always tell, loves the sun, is bright, intelligent and thoughtful, but slow to trust others (but trusts their friends). likely a baker, and is good at and enjoys cooking, likes bees, creative and probably does painting with their artistic friend orange, is kind and loveable, helps their friends to see the light in dark or hard times, has intense summer grief, is drawn to sunlight, likes poetry and books, quiet but their friends can always get them to talk more and make them feel less shy and reserved, cute, tries their hardest to be helpful (and is) and thinks they don’t matter, but unknowingly binds their friend group together and is sorely missed by the others if they aren’t around.

We had a church group picnic today and I brought my broccoli salad because it was often one of the few things at potlucks our priest could eat.

Even though she’s 4 and a half hours away.

I will always bring my broccoli salad to church potlucks. Always. Forever.
