This morning nobody set an alarm, but we all got up around 9:30 or 10 pretty much. Mostly we just sat around for the morning, and eventually Kelsey left for class. I made myself some pasta for lunch, and at some point after that I left and did some shopping very close to our apartment, and I actually got a bracelet, a jean jacket, and a half sleeve tshirt. I still have yet to buy a tourist tshirt, but it’s still on my list.
Once Kelsey got back we had dinner, I made myself burritos and Kelsey had some pasta, and then we received an invitation from the girls in our program in the apartment upstairs to go out with them, so we went. I had a really nice time talking to Megan, Maggie, Eliza, Taylor, Phoenix, Kelsey, and Haley, and apparently they really like my blog? It’s so funny to me to hear that people on this trip are reading it, mostly because I’m writing it for the people back home and they are more or less experiencing it with me, but it’s nice to hear that they like it too. Here is a friendly reminder that your super power is the ability to change the way other people are feeling with just your words, and also those girls made my day better.
We had been planning on seeing the John Lennon wall while it was still light out, and after we left the other girls the sun had already set but we went to see the wall anyway. We took some pictures, but we’re planning on returning tomorrow and I think those pictures will probably turn out better. We used flash and there were some street lights but those pictures are still pretty questionable.
As I was sitting down to write this post, Maike invited me, Kelsey, and Phoenix out again because they found a place that had some awesome dancing. Phoenix decided she was done for the night, but I quick changed back into my dress (out of my pjs) and off we went.
It was definitely much more crowded than other places we had seen, but it was also very strange. Some guys who were distinctly shorter than me kept trying to dance with me, and it was just ???? If you’re approaching me on a crowded dance floor, obviously you know nothing about me and are just doing it for the shallow reason of because you think I’m cute. That’s obviously the way things work in such places, but do you not think that if you are a solid 3-5 inches shorter than me that I will also be just as shallow as you and decide I don’t want to talk to you because you don’t meet the height requirements? In my daily life it’s not that big of a deal, but on a crowded dance floor? Really??
There was a guy who was at least as tall as me who tried to dance with me, but it was very loud and his accent was very thick, so I had no idea what he was trying to say most of the time and altogether gave up on the idea rather quickly. On the plus side, the only guy left in our program, Andy, was also there, and he actually did a pretty good job of fending off unwanted creeps, without even being asked, which was an unexpected plus from him.
We finally left around 2:45, very tired. I figured I would finish this post and update you on the fact that I supposedly walked 6+ miles in a combination of yesterday and today (since midnight), but a lot of today’s must have been from my phone swinging while dancing or something, because I don’t think I’ve actually walked the 2 miles it claims I have since midnight.
Altogether it was a good night, and I’m ultimately pretty happy with the way it turned out. We have a professional visit tomorrow afternoon, which should hopefully be good.
