Not sure if the two are related but I noticed that Sun Warrior Zuko's body paint looks reminiscent of the Painted Lady's body paint. And considering the PL is a Fire Nation spirit...

It's absolutely intentional! Following the same logic as in Akai Kotou (adding a link for the curious folks out there!), Sun Warrior Zuko chooses his markings to resemble those of the Painted Lady, a retribution/protection spirit of Fire Nation rivers.

This is also my not-so-subtle way of drawing attention to the fact that the Sun Warriors' warpaint and the Painted Lady's patterns actually do resemble each other in canon.

Wanted to share a sketch I did for two new characters that appear in the latest chapter of TAatFP! :)

Zyanya is an OC and is the 18yo daughter of the Sun Warrior chief, while Xi (17yo in this fic) is a preexisting character from the Avatar Legends TTRPG (she’s used as an example for The Adamant character archetype) who I decided to incorporate into this chapter, as she canonically witnessed Aang and Zuko face Ran and Shaw.

Yes, they’re girlfriends, and their ship name is Xianya 😌

AU - After the war, Zuko hears that Azula knows about the Sun Warrior island. Worried she’s going to cause trouble, Zuko heads there on his own and finds Azula before Ran and Shaw. He doesn’t really know what’s happening but he wants to protect her only for the dragons to knock him back and for Azula to tell him this was her choice as they breath fire on her.

Except that, when the fire clears away, Azula isn’t dead. Instead, there’s a baby dragon in her place. The chief explains Azula’s request for a new life to a very confused Zuko who, even though he is still deeply confused and a bit upset to learn Azula is gone, makes a pledge to return to the island every year to see her.

I really like this little Zutara crumb from the very end of the Sun Warriors episode…

At first, Zuko is angry and irritated because everyone is making fun of the new firebending forms. Just contrast:

The way his face instantly softens when she starts talking means so much to me. She’s also making fun of him. His whole demeanor changes as soon as she starts speaking. It’s literally just the sound of her voice talking to him that makes him soften up.

Post vacation hot take: If there was a storyline about Azula meeting the Sun Warriors, it would have had a bigger impact on her character, than it had on Zuko's.

Sun Warrior Chief: Fire Lord Zuko, thank you for answering our humble request for your assistance.

Zuko: Of course. What is it that I can do?

Sun Warrior Chief: There’s a small dragon flying around asking everyone if they’ve seen his dad.

Zuko: …

Sun Warrior Chief: He says he needs you to take him to his soccer game and he wants chicken nuggets for dinner.
