Cadenza was proud of herself for being able to recognize Sun Bai, given that he wasn’t wearing his glasses when she bumped into him. He was standing at a table awash with complimentary toys.
When Cadenza asked if he was looking for any one in particular, he said, “One that can make your pussy light up.”
Cadenza's deft fingers hovered over the selection. Within seconds, she locked onto one that fit that description.
“You mean something like this?”
Bai thanked her before taking it and flipping a switch to make sure the thing was working properly.
Then he said, “I’ve got a room if you’re not busy right now. There’s champagne in there too.”
.
.
.
Bai’s room was more like a suite, Cadenza realized as he held the door open for her. Like he promised, two flutes of champagne waited for them on a small table by the oversized bed.
Cadenza and Sun Bai made a toast to a long, safe, fun-filled evening.
Bai downed his flute before Cadenza could finish hers. He had watched her the whole time he drank. The pirate didn’t look away from her as he carelessly tossed his glass to the side where it shattered against the marble.
Cadenza lowered her drink and shot him a questionable look.
Bai shrugged. “I’ve always wanted to do that.”
As soon as Cadenza finished and set down her glass, Bai advanced, swiftly cupping her face before leaving her breathless with… what very much felt like a pent-up sort of affection.
Though he had rushed into the kiss, Bai eventually slowed down, savoring the shape of Cadenza’s mouth. Soon they were both dragging airy groans from the other as they stumbled in sync towards the bed.
[Lie down.]
The pirate pulled up a chair at the edge, flipping it about-face and straddling it with ease. His erection angled snugly against the cushioned back while he folded his arms over the top, leaning forward and fixing his hungry gaze on the robe coming undone from around Cadenza’s waist.
He flicked the toy in her direction.
[You know what to do.]
Cadenza chuckled as she caught the small vibrator with ease. “Not going to touch yourself while I do the same?”
Bai shook his head, grinning. “Don’t want to miss anything.”
Soon Cadenza was relaxing back with her legs spread butterfly-style. She said, “I bet you’re wishing you had your glasses right about now.”
Bai showed his teeth.
“You’re hilarious.”
Then he demonstrated how far he could lean the chair forward. “If I need a better view, I’ll just get closer like this.”
Cadenza snorted. “What if I squirt into your eye?”
Bai lowered his head, lining his chin up at her vertical slit. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
Cadenza laughed sincerely that time.
It wasn’t long before she got going, using both the vibrating accessory and her own fingers to get her heart rate up.
Bai kept his dark gray eyes mostly fixed on her pussy, but every now and then he would look up and tell Cadenza how pleasing she was to watch up close, how he appreciated how hard she was concentrating on giving him a good show.
“And what, Sun Bai,” Cadenza panted, “are you going to give me if I manage to give you the kind of show you’ve been craving all night.”
Bai hugged the back of the chair and gently cocked his head to the side.
“What do you mean?”
Cadenza was well aware that the psychic was teasing her, but she couldn’t back out now. A shiny trail of sweat ran from the base of her throat to the top of her snatch.
No, she couldn’t stop. Not when she was so fucking close and her fingers were starting cramp—
“Need a hand?”
Cadenza didn’t see Bai leave the chair. Before she knew what was going on, he was huddled at the foot of the mattress, bowing his head between her legs.
The vibrator came out. His fingers slid in. He flexed them confidently, with purpose. He licked his lips in concentration.
Cadenza’s breath caught. Excitement briefly flashed across the pirate’s features at her reaction.
[There?]
Cadenza arched back onto her elbows. How did he know?
“Timing,” Bai whispered, reading her mind, “and pressure. That’s all it is.”
He gave two more coaxes before she broke into a fine sprinkle, showering the space between them with her release. Bai coaxed out as much cum as he could, catching it on his chin with a serene smirk.
Afterwards, when Cadenza was fixing her robe, she was confused to see Bai joining her on the bed as if he planned to stay there.
Without a word, he looped his arm around her middle and guided her to lie next to him. He looked at her and she looked back at him over the rise of the silk cushions.
“Bai… what are you doing?” Cadenza asked, trying not to sound rude.
Bai lowered his gaze and tucked his hand in the crease of her hip.
“Holding you.”
Cadenza rolled her eyes. “Because I earned it?”
[Because I want to.]
He leaned until their foreheads kissed, not bothering to move the stray ghostly strands that spilled across Cadenza’s features.
The magician was silent as she cradled Bai’s face and kissed him in a way that she hoped conveyed her thoughts. Thanking him for his time.

Sun Bai couldn’t stop staring at Cadenza’s mouth. By now he had her freckled, no nonsense pout committed to memory. Still, knowing that this was his last day in Vesuvia, he took in all that he could. He was on her bed, leaning back on his elbows while the raven-haired magician was beside, but facing him. Her knees were drawn up under her and she was leaning forward on her palms, which were pressed into the mattress on either side of Bai’s relaxed waist.
Bai liked the way Cadenza was careful to avoid meeting his skin except to kiss him. She went slow. He appreciated that too.
The pirate, however, was hoping to eventually feel the pressure of her hand over his cock where it tented against his kilted trousers. He could tell Cadenza was holding back from the impatient breaths she released in between kisses. So Bai shifted a little, grazing his erection against her outer thigh.
As soon as Cadenza noticed, she pulled back and fixed him with that direct, gold-flecked gaze.
“What do you want?”
Bai hesitated only to wet his lips. “I want you to put that mouth to better use.”
Cadenza glanced down at where he was pressed against his leg to consider. “How? By sucking you off?”
“Yeah.”
She looked back up at him. “Pull down your kilt.”
Afterwards when they both were ready and Bai was leaning back on his elbows, he felt the need to feel closer to Cadenza in a way he hoped she would understand.
He unfurled his senses and directed his intentions in her direction.
[Cadenza. You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this.]
The dark-haired magician paused right before taking in his length. She looked up at him with a mixture of confusion and interest.
Bai tried to keep his expression neutral as he explained himself.
[Your thoughts are safe. I just want you to hear my voice.]
Cadenza, realizing what he meant, nodded and went back to guiding her lips around his shaft. Bai felt a shiver pass through him as he entered a world of wet, supple heat. He flexed his toes until they popped.
Not much time passed before Cadenza heard his voice echoing between her ears.
[You’re very good, you know. At giving head.]
There was a wet pop as she temporarily unhinged herself to say, “Thank you.”
[You’re welcome.]
Cadenza found Sun Bai’s telepathic voice to be quite soothing despite the filth behind some of what he said.
[You look good, Cadenza. You’ve got a great ass. Nice tits. But think I like your face the best. Yeah… especially right now when you’re...] His hips bucked unexpectedly [gagging so hard on my cock.]
A little startled, Cadenza withdrew to cough. Several glossy strings of saliva chased her mouth from Bai’s tip. He smirked comfortably until the next thing he knew, Cadenza’s nails were digging into his hips.
He hissed and dug his own fingers into the sheets as he gathered them into his fists.
“Sun Bai,” Cadenza said calmly, though her voice came out hoarse, “do you want me to stop fucking you?”
He struggled to maintain eye contact with her. Through a locked jaw, he grumbled, “No.”
She dug her nails in a little more. “Then be still.”
Bai exhaled loudly when she finally let go.
Before returning to her task, she gestured to her temple and said, “You can continue if you’d like.”
Bai decided to wait a little before projecting his thoughts again. He relaxed onto the pillows, closed his eyes and just absorbed the sound of Cadenza gliding up and down his swollen cock, lathering it with her saliva, working that in with her tongue and the rhythmic bob of her head.
He would have gotten lost in it had she not cleared her throat and shot him an expectant look when he opened his eyes. Bai angled himself back onto his elbows so he could see her better.
[Right. Like I was saying. You really know what you’re doing. The way you got that tongue wrapped around me makes me want to…]
The longer Bai went on, the more Cadenza felt her face heat up. Pretty soon, Bai was chuckling in her mind.
[Are you blushing, Cadenza? What’s wrong? Tend to get a little bashful whenever my head hits the very back of your throat? That’s understandable.]
Cadenza’s blush only deepened, blending her freckles in a sea of dark coral. Her eyelids fluttered of their own accord. She took a second to moan, to breathe. The next thing she realized, Bai was sitting up and reaching over to sweep her hair off her shoulders. She glanced over at him, her mouth still around his cock.
Bai’s dark not-quite-black eyes were studying the wealth of freckles along her shoulders and down her chest. He kept combing his fingers gently through her curls, which Cadenza found reassuring even though his skin never once brushed against her ear or neck.
Finally, Bai met her gold-flecked gaze. That silent yet subtle encouragement that she felt in the fine pressure behind his strokes, she could also read on his face. Cadenza maintained eye contact with the pirate as she took him in deeper and redoubled her efforts. Except for his occasional grunts, Bai was fairly silent, encouraging Cadenza further by dragging the peaks of his knuckles over her gauzy sleeve. He dropped them lower to where the cut of her dress barely covered her nipple. Bai swept his thumb over where he guessed it might be.
Cadenza shut her eyes and enlisted her hand to help beat him off. She felt her own inner walls twitch as he arrested her excited nipple between his middle and forefinger. He pinched the bead of flesh lightly through the gauzy fabric and used his thumb to tease it further.
Cadenza quickly got caught up in the sensation. There was no warning from Bai for what came next.
“Shit.”
Once again, Cadenza was coughing. But she collected herself. She was determined.
“Damn. You’re drooling everywhere. Hold on. You don’t have to swallow all of it–”
If Bai hadn’t helped Cadenza up, she definitely would have tried. Before she could blurt out her protest, Bai lifted her chin and captured her lips with his.
[Slow down. Save some for me.]
He sucked his own release from the corner of her mouth and chin as he kissed her. Cadenza moaned more than she intended to. There was still so much of Bai she wanted to touch before he left. She had to suppress the urge to wrap her arms around his neck and collapse with him onto the pillows. She could tell from his fine touches that doing so would only push him away.
Her moans threatened to become whines when Bai let her go and focused on hitching his kilt back over his hips. Then he went about retying his slightly disheveled bun.
“Thank you, Cadenza.” The pirate said it so informally, as if he had just been handed a cup of tea.
Cadenza stretched out on her bed and rested her cheek on her arm. “When will I see you again?”
Bai was standing now, adjusting his clothes with his back to her.
“I don’t know.”
He cracked his neck once, turned, and peered down at her over the rims of his gold-tinted shades.
“But the next time you do, I’ll be taking you to dinner.”
Sabina @arcanecadenza and I both agree that one of the reasons why Sundenza works so well is because they’re both proper in the streets, but freaks in the sheets. With that being said, please enjoy this fic where they behave as the former kinda.

~2.2k words
Sun Bai’s back from his recent campaign at sea. He leaves a message at the door of Cadenza’s shop that asks her to be ready for dinner after sundown.
When Sun Bai came around the corner, he was happy to see Cadenza waiting for him. However, the only sign of how he was feeling was in the slight wrinkle of his nose and the unconscious urge to crack his knuckles. He wore his usual attire, but in a different fabric. Something darker, crisper and with more defined edges.
Bai noticed that Cadenza had styled herself for the occasion too. Her long, v-cut dress was in a solid color this time. It was dark out, but if Bai had to guess, he would settle on a deep shade of plum.
Cadenza’s hair was just as dark and healthy as he remembered, flaring about her head and framing her intense features. The magician stood with her arms folded, looking impatient.
When Bai came within earshot, she asked him point blank, “Why are we eating so late? And why aren’t you wearing your glasses?”
“I’m happy to see you too.” Bai stopped before her, his expression something between a sneer and a smirk. “I see better at night. My eyesight is sharpest when there’s no artificial light, but I can still handle myself without glasses.”
“Oh.” Cadenza uncrossed her arms. She seemed unsure what to do with them since Bai wasn’t one for physical touch. “Well, it is nice to see you again. I wish you had just knocked today instead of leaving a note. I wouldn’t have minded catching up with you over tea in between appointments.”
Bai angled his head towards the street. “We can catch up over tea when we get to where we’re going.”
He didn’t wait for her before he started to walk. Cadenza’s legs were long, so she easily caught up to him. When she asked where they were going to eat and pointed out that it was late enough for most restaurants to be closed, he only smiled and said, “Where we’re going isn’t far. It’s right here in South End.”
It was typical for the restaurant fronts to face the main road. So when Bai entered a congested side street clustered with family-owned shops, Cadenza thought they had taken an unexpected detour. When they finally reached their destination, Cadenza took note of how much unlike a restaurant it appeared. Despite what she saw, she definitely smelled the food – hot, beefy, fried and herbaceous all at once. If she was able to detect this much with her dulled senses, the smell must have been overwhelming to someone like Bai.
Cadenza caught the pirate observing her as she breathed in the different aromas. He opened the door for her, holding her gaze as she glided inside the building. Cadenza slowed down upon entering, expecting a host to escort them to a table. A shiver raced up her spine when she felt Bai’s fingertips press into the small of her back.
“This way.”
He steered her around a bend in the wall, towards the farthest corner of the restaurant. The pirate casually picked up a metal kettle from one of the stationary push carts and swiped two ceramic cups from an unoccupied table. By the time Cadenza caught up to him, he had chosen a circular booth and was already pouring tea from the kettle into the shallow cups.
“No one saw us come in,” Cadenza pointed out as she eased herself into the tight booth.
“We’re close to the kitchen,” Bai said without looking up from his task. “They’re bound to notice us.”
He was right. Shortly after they sat down, a bored-looking teenager in a white smock approached them with two menus. Bai shook his head before the kid came any closer.
“No. The other menu.”
Understanding flickered in their expression and they left without another word. When they came back to drop off Bai’s request, Cadenza asked, “What’s so special about that one?”
Bai waved over at the low-rising divider separating them from the other side of the restaurant where the Vesuvian diners were the most concentrated. “Everything on their plates is what they think people from my region eat.”
He held up the sheet in his hand. “This is a lot closer to what we actually eat.”
“So we’re about to have food from your home country,” Cadenza realized. She wondered why he hadn’t said something about it earlier.
Bai was focused on the menu. “We are.”
The waiter had only brought one this time, so Cadenza had to crane her neck to see what Bai was looking at. She didn’t recognize any of the characters looking back at her. Leaning back in her seat, she huffed, “I can’t read it, but I’m guessing you’ll help me with that.”
He did. Bai made it clear early on that they would be sharing everything they ordered. He asked how she felt about spicy foods. When Cadenza said that she preferred spice, he smiled. But Cadenza wasn’t entirely prepared to let him take the reins and order for her.
Bai seemed to sense her apprehension. “Don’t worry. I’m not going to make you eat anything too adventurous.”
Cadenza asked coolly, “What would qualify as too adventurous in your opinion?”
He shrugged. “Fish bladder.”
Cadenza blinked. “I… hadn’t realized that was an option.”
Bai must have found her expression amusing because he cracked a very small smile and said, “That’s why we’re sticking to the basics. Vegetables, noodles, and squid.”
The vegetables and noodles (which were semi-transparent) were concentrated in summer rolls and a dark heavenly-smelling broth called pho.
“How do you say it again? Fff-oh?” Cadenza asked after she had doctored her portion exactly like Bai showed her – with plum sauce, lime, cilantro, fresh jalapenos, and bean sprouts.
“It’s pronounced like fuhh,” he said as he added an entire stalk of basil and a full tray of bean sprouts and cilantro to his serving. The last dish to arrive was the salt and pepper squid. The sight of the new entree suddenly made Cadenza register all that they were sharing.
She did her best to not sound rude when she asked, “That looks great, but isn’t this a bit too much?”
A flat, clear noodle disappeared behind Bai’s lips as he swallowed. “I wanted you to have something else with some texture just in case you couldn’t taste much. Besides,” he looked fondly at the plate of hot, crispy squid, “that’s my favorite, so you don’t have to worry. Nothing here is going to waste.”
While Bai was preoccupied with fetching himself a piece, Cadenza took the time to study him. It had been at least two fortnights since she’d last seen the pirate and the dark-haired magician almost forgot how much she missed tracking his nervous patterns. She noticed a decrease in them tonight for some reason. And now that his glasses were gone, Cadenza found her attention returning to the smooth loop of jade hugging his septum and the same stones beading out vertically between his eyes. What hadn’t changed was the way his black and white tendrils fanned around his face and separated into dozens of ghostly wisps. He made no effort to move them out of the way as he ate.
“Bai? May I ask you a personal question?”
Bai was onto one of the summer rolls, dipping it in the sweet peanut sauce before biting into it.
“Go ahead.”
Cadenza hesitated. She wanted to choose her words carefully. “Since you don’t like to be touched, what do you do when you want to be more… intimate with your partners?”
Bai paused, the summer roll already halfway in his mouth. He pulled it out and fixed Cadenza with a look that was equal parts puzzled and suspicious.
Cadenza added as innocently as she could, “Do I really deserve that face? I said my question would be personal. By the way, you’re dripping peanut sauce all over the table.”
Bai snorted, but not unkindly. He put down the roll and used a napkin to clean up after himself. As he wiped, he explained, “I can get used to the person’s touch if I make an effort. But I have to really want to.”
Cadenza put down her chopsticks and folded her hands over the table. “Do you really want to... with me?”
Bai smirked. “Let’s see. I’ve worked myself up to kiss you.”
That’s when Cadenza felt that familiar, yet unexpected sensation. Brushing up against the inner walls of her mind were isolated, wet blades of grass. They tickled her every time Bai projected his ideas.
[I have inappropriate thoughts about you when I’m out at sea.]
“We’ve had tea a few times.”
[I asked you to strip and then finger yourself while I watched.]
“I’m taking you out to dinner right now.”
[And the last time I was in town, you were kind enough to suck my dick.]
“So what do you think, Cadenza?”
His presence departed her mind as easily as it had arrived.
Cadenza, who was prepared that Bai might pull something like this, inhaled slowly before coming back with her own assessment.
“I think all of that useful evidence confirms what I suspected up to this point. You want to touch me more. Well, I’ll have you know that I want you to touch me too. And I don’t want you to hesitate so much around me. I want for you to be comfortable enough to touch me while we’re intimate. That’s what I think.”
No matter how much he tried to hide it, Bai’s face turned a handsome shade of reddish gold behind his cup of tea. “Gods, Cadenza. I forgot how straightforward you could be.” He downed his drink. “Don’t get me wrong, I like it. But sometimes I have to catch myself.”
Cadenza smiled, quite pleased with herself. “I tend to have that effect on people.”
Bai held her gold-flecked gaze. “Do you really want me to get used to touching you?”
Cadenza sobered. “Yes. I really do.”
Bai wrinkled his nose and went back to helping himself to more squid.
“Then just give me time. I’ll get there.” He paused to stretch out his arm and brush the peaks of his knuckles against Cadenza’s wrist. “Maybe sooner than you think.”
They spent the rest of their time eating and talking. They were only approached by the waiter when the tea or water got low, but otherwise, they were not bothered. Bai finished the rest of the pho broth. Cadenza finished off the extra bean sprouts and cilantro stems.
“You don’t have to eat that,” Bai said when he saw what she was up to.
Cadenza replied, “I know, but I enjoy the crunch.”
The salt and pepper squid was clearly the highlight of the night. Sun Bai and Cadenza both wanted the last piece, but insisted that the other take it for themselves. They went back and forth on this until it was evident that their manners wouldn’t allow either to bend. So Cadenza asked Bai if they could split it between them. As soon as he agreed, she attacked the last morsel, dividing it into two pieces and making sure Bai ate the part she instructed him to.
Only after he swallowed, did Cadenza confess, “By the way, I gave you the bigger half.”
Bai smirked and pointed at the ceiling. “Thanks to the lighting, my eyes are not at their sharpest. So I saw no such thing.”
Cadenza sat back and folded her arms. “You may have chosen the restaurant, ordered everything we ate, and paid for it already, but face it. You got the last bite of the squid, and I let you have it.”
Bai didn’t want to waste any more time staring and grinning at the dark-haired magician, but she made it very difficult to look away.
“Fine. You win. Now will you let me walk you home?”
Thankfully, Cadenza was feeling generous. They walked back to her shop, following the canals. Cadenza led Bai a way where there wouldn’t be as many streetlights. They didn’t hold hands, but they walked close enough to brush elbows every now and then. Neither commented on it.
There was an empty square they passed through where the buildings were spread out enough to let in a lot of moonlight. It was here that Cadenza commented on Bai’s eyes. No longer ambiguous and dark, they reminded her of coarse black pepper.
“Your eyes,” she slowed down, “they’re gray. Like shattered gunmetal.”
Bai stopped too. It gave Cadenza a chance to study them even more. “I knew they weren’t brown, but I wasn’t sure if they were black.”
Bai’s hand came up to scratch the side of his neck. “Do you like them?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
The pirate didn’t smile. “I like yours too.” Before Cadenza could reply, he blurted, “I want you to hold onto my waist while I kiss you.”
Cadenza looked around at the empty square. “Now?”
Bai swallowed hard. “Yes. Right now.” His hands rose up to cradle her jaw. He carefully drew her in. Cadenza found his waist. She allowed herself to get lost in his dark gray eyes that fractured the moonlight like broken glass.
Bai leaned and tapped his warm lips against hers once, and again. He had improved since the first time. Bai allowed them both a breath before angling his head to the right and going in for more kisses, all of them soft and chaste and glancing.
Bai.
Cadenza was sure she hadn’t spoken her thoughts aloud, yet she heard an answer.
[Yes, Cadenza.]
She tried to look up at him through her eyelashes.
“You’re reading my thoughts?”
[Right now, yes.]
Cadenza closed her eyes and concentrated on what she needed to say, exactly what she needed him to know.
. . . I want you inside me tonight.
She wrapped her arms a bit more snugly around his waist.
