Do we know of any plot holes/retcons?

There are some. like god ROTM is littered with plot holes. but instead of getting into that. how about i talk about some s1 sunken scrolls. Scroll 21 stands out to me as Weird

"What is this? It looks like the proprietor of that shoe shop! Could there have been an ancient creature that consumed prawns as food?! A terrifying thought indeed..."

from this description we're supposed to take this as -the text here isnt inkling language and is just a gibberish stand in for a human language -inklings dont eat tempura or know what it is, and find it scary

in s1 times with how little we actually knew about splatoon's worldbuilding, people did take this at face value. then s2 gave us tempura food truck and other info about how normally seafood is consumed in the splatoon world. so either this was retconned, or it was always intended to be a joke but was too ahead of its time for an audience that knew nothing about the setting.

Here's another scroll i find odd...

"Since time immemorial, a rare type of electric catfish known as the Zapfish has been prized by Inkling society as a source of energy. In fact, the entire city of Inkopolis is powered by a single 100-year-old Great Zapfish!"

That "entire city of inkopolis" part sounds...off. what do you mean a fish powers the entire city? They have solar energy and wind farms and power eggs though? There's another potential explanation...

Inkopolis Plaza in JP is called ハイカラシティ Haikara City. Unfortunately this same word is also used for referring to the entire city of inkopolis, which has led to translation issues. For example, In the first artbook in english, there are several instances where stages are described as being "near Inkopolis" when the location is clearly in Inkopolis, and what's actually being referred to is Inkopolis plaza. Here, it could be read that just Inkopolis Plaza, which is just a section of the giant city of Inkopolis, is powered by the Great Zapfish. Or, they really do mean the whole city, which makes sense since the Great Zapfish chills in other spots around the city.

Either way, there is some unreliable narration happening here. what percentage of Inkopolis's energy usage comes from zapfish power anyways...?

You know what I find funny? The fact that they gave a 3D model to the President/CEO that built the Splatlands lobby and 2D art for the President of the company in charge of the Grand Festival's construction yet they never gave us any art of the Squid Sisters' original music producer, Shy-Ho-Shy, who's been mentioned several times.

Like, oh sure, the person who helped them become idols doesn't get an official character design, but these two randos who probably are never going to be mentioned ever again do 😆
