berating was not a foreign concept to stefan cowell. after all, his most FORMATIVE YEARS had been spent under    the rule    of one irene swann, and the lady hadn’t uttered a single word, of hidden well-meaning or something akin, to her son that could pass for cordial. aggression was always underlying––and stefan on his guard, waiting. its a childhood that makes the customer’s criticism run right off him, lacking the effect he suspected she sought from him. instead,    amusement    creeps onto shaved features.     ‘    you know, when this is over––    ,    he intervenes, gesture made between them, referring to her inebriated spew of dislike, brought on by a harmless comment made. women.    ‘    we should really have angry sex.     ,

starter for @sunlightsgirl    –    emma phillips !

a batch of raw cookie dough in her lap, wooden spoon stirred with an absent mind, odette’s focus is kept on the landlord who ducks out of sight. she’d only been at the apartment for a moment before the task of cookie prep had been handed off, emma preoccupied with the “help” supplied to her by somebody twice her age. gross. now, odette would’ve said something sooner––assuring emma that she was more than capable of fixing a leaking radiator in his place, or that the man in question was likely to be sporting a giant creep certification––though she found amusement in the situation, viewing firsthand her friend’s rose-colored glasses add an opaque tint of blush to an event that was an, obviously, dim grey. a bit sadistic, really.    “    that man wants to sleep with you,    ”    she starts, dough caught on her index and brought to full lips.    “    any time a man shows a woman how to do something from behind, it’s just an excuse for him to get really close and breathe down her neck.    ”

PEOPLE    ARE    DOING    IT    WRONG.    canned goods and bottled water, stacked in the gymnasium or hidden away in their homes, all the focus on surviving starvation or dehydration. and none, absolutely zero, on surviving what’s OUT THERE. forgetting the physical protection of those bodies they’re so desperate to keep alive. she’s not stupid––she knows what she saw on television and she hears enough whispers to know safety is but a fleeting concept.    SO ELLIOT MOORE IS APPROACHED.    it’s different from all the other times, carefree interaction and subtle flirting disguised as negging, replaced with GRAVITY. the woods of roswell, georgia, surround them now    –    and her father’s rifle rests in small hands.    ‘    the closest i’ve ever been to a grizzly bear is when i left my glasses in my tent on a camping trip in alaska, saw a big rock in the distance, and almost screamed.    ,    anxiety brings forth the need to fill the silence, even if the content proves embarrassing. she wasn’t betting on stumbling upon a bear either, but maybe a deer    –     possibly a rabbit. sawyer was hoping for something else, though. shooting what resembled her deceased pet had not been on the agenda for the day.

HE    IS    NOT    IMPULSIVE.   a short fuse distracts from this and his lack of spontaneity thus hides beneath an exterior of mood swings. but, despite how adventurous he might appear to the untrained eye, nobody would be foolish enough to take him for the VEGAS type. let alone the get-black-out-drunk-and-get-married-in-vegas type. his hangover is cured with more booze, one BLOODY MARY next to pancakes stacked and another glass emptied right beside it, all while sienna supplies him with the headache regardless. yeah, yeah… he wasn’t her biggest fan either.    ‘    you couldn’t have said so before we got married?    ,    then again, maybe she did. he doesn’t remember much: only tequila downed, and the faded echo of an ELVIS impersonator.

          one of these days, henry was going to have to suck it up and just start attending alcoholics anonymous meetings because these days of getting up after ten in the morning after drinking all night was going to get old. he was going to blame his father for it, even if the man was only half to blame for his own bad habits. at least he was, for the most part, on his own now. a late morning for him meant that he needed extra coffee to deal with his day. luckily his job wasn’t that stressful and he didn’t care if he got fired for being late. his father was the one that wanted him to study politics and henry had zero interest in the subject. he wanted to be a writer—and as if that wasn’t stressful enough, he had to deal with other problems. sometimes he wished he was back in college, when the only issue he was dealing with was his god damned sexuality... and the alcoholism. slow to get ready, he finally managed to drag himself out of his apartment right at eleven. immediately, he wished he could go back inside and back to sleep. the sun was too bright. henry walked slowly towards the coffee shop and ordered the biggest black coffee he could order. “i’ve already decided, today’s gonna fucking suck.” he wondered if he looked like he had just rolled out of bed.
