suna’s not a very confident person. he was quiet, reserved, almost stoic if it wasn’t for his friends, so it’s not really any surprise when he’s got zero sense of confidence in him.
of course, drive and confidence aren’t one and the same. he had drive — natural, pure drive especially to the things he enjoy, and he figures, that drive works too in talking up strangers he bumps into.
“sorry!” you’re quick to say the second you crash into him, and he would’ve been peeved, sure, but he just can’t help but feel the entire opposite when he finally gets a look at you.
you look concerned, “are you okay?”
suna blinks. you’re very cute.
you nod back, unsure of what to say next.
this was awkward. he didn’t really have anything else to say, but then again, he also just really really didn’t want to leave without your name.
he points out, “i uhm - i like your shirt.”
“thanks, it’s my favorite band.” you say back, feeling a bit skittish.
“oh ! me too.” he tells you, placing a hand on his neck, and you wonder if he’s smiling or not, it was kind of hard to tell.
he holds your glance, and you hold his. there’s something in the air that just made everything feel so awkward, but at the same time, he wonders if you could feel your heart beating out of your chest too.
your smile softens, “i should go.”
this was one of the very few times he wishes he’d have confidence instead of drive, even just a little bit so he didn’t have to bite back all the time, but the mall was crowded, and people were starting glare at how the two of you stood in the middle of the pathway.
he asks you, “do you have a cellphone?”
“i do.” you tell him, feeling a bit more awkward now.
you hesitate on saying anything else, completely on the fence about giving a total stranger your contact information - no matter how cute they were.
you offer him a polite smile, “but you know, i kind of don’t know you.”
“oh.” suna says. so much for confidence.
this is the first time he asks for someone’s number and he gets completely turned down, talk about embarrassing.
so, he didn’t have confidence. that’s fine, he’ll always have drive anyways, and right now, it’s telling him that if you didn’t want to give him your phone number, he could always just give you his.
he smiles at you, hoping that you won’t find him any weirder than he already appeared, and he says, “give me your hand.”
you narrow your eyes, grinning, and you hesitate, but you hold out your hand anyways.
suna’s not a very confident person so he’s unsure where all of this is coming from, but he reaches in his pocket for a sharpie, thankful that he brought one today, and took in the opportunity to write on your palm.
“when i leave.” he grins, a lazy smile, and you wonder if that’s the best he could do with facial expressions.
suna pulls back, spotting his friends in the crowd behind you, and before he could get you to say anything else, he hopes this quick interaction is enough to for you to remember him.
he grins, that same lazy smile, “bye.” he tells you, and he walks off to where his friends were sitting at.
at the corner of his eye, he sees you look down on your palm. a mixture of butterflies and giddiness swirling in his gut as he sees you read it, and smile.
you have a really pretty smile.
maybe he shouldn’t have been so eager to give a stranger his number, but hey, it wasn’t everyday he’d get to meet someone like you, right?
on your palm, he wrote in his best handwriting; a scribble of his cellphone number and a short note of —
this is my number, pls text me :) — suna
