@midnightactual from here:
The offered pipe prompted a polite smile, but also a hand raised palm outward to decline. “Thanks, but not my kinda thing.” While Yoruichi’s lack of tolerance for drink was just something she had to live with, she’d simply never had an interest in smoking. Part of it was a practical concern for her lungs, but part of it was that it’d just never appealed to her. She’d never cared for her friends engaging in it either—be it Kisuke, Kūkaku, or anyone else—but it wasn’t her place to tell them what to do.
She dropped her hand back down and considered the darkening sky. Light pollution was still kinda bad in Karakura, but a few stars were visible. “I think it’s the humidity that really gets to people.” July and August in Tokyo were infamously brutal, averaging 78% and 83% humidity, respectively. It was part of why the city became a ghost town around Obon. For most, it was like there was little point in showering; they’d get drenched the moment they stepped outside anyway.
As for herself... well, she was built kind of different, and she’d been in places where it could reach 100%. It could be a little annoying, but she’d take it over snowy winters any day. “But it doesn’t really bother me too much. And the rain is nice. I’ve never really minded typhoon season. Kinda reminds me of monsoons, just not as reliable.”
“Are you partial to climatology or astronomy? Or are you just taking a break?” she soon continued. It would make sense if Benihime shared Kisuke’s scientific appreciation.
She shrugs and returns the pipe to her mouth after Yoruichi declines. It wasn’t for everyone. In fact, she wasn’t really smoking anything per se. There was no tobacco in the kiseru at all. Even if there was, it would have a very minimal effect on her. She didn’t smoke for the effect, the act of smoking was cathartic in itself to her.
At Yoruichi’s question, though, she slightly raises a brow.
“Climatology? Astrology? I don’t particularly assign meaning to either the stars or the weather.” She takes the kiseru out of her mouth and turns her head to the opposite direction to blow away the smoke.
"They can mean everything. They can mean nothing. People struggle to find meaning in natural phenomena or events when it can be as simple as there is no meaning. There is nothing wrong to simply enjoy life as the way it is without analyzing it.”
She lolls her head around on her shoulders, working out the kinks in her neck from looking up for so long. The sun had finally set, the sky dark settling into a dark blue. It was getting slightly colder, but not by much. She didn’t feel the need to go back inside, not yet. Plus, the company was not bad.
“And what brings you here today?”
