Talking about Glossier always gets me really excited.
Glossier is the one brand whose packaging that I absolutely cannot get enough of. Although I do feel that there are definitely better options out there for Glossier’s prices, their marketing and product packaging is just so on point I can’t help but hoard their products all the same.
I think I’ve done a pretty good job restraining myself so far, but over the past two years I’ve still managed to amass quite a collection of Glossier products to do an overall brand review of the hits and misses.
On the top of my list for Glossier would be their Lash Slick Mascara. I started using this mascara when it first came out in 2017 and I have already bought 3 tubes of this so far - that’s just how much I love it. I’ve always wanted my lashes to look long and natural, and with minimal smudging on my under eyes. This mascara works perfectly - the fibers are tiny, the wand is stiff, the product doesn’t ever make my lashes look clump, and it’s water resistant so it doesn’t give me panda eyes but it’s easy to wash off. When I curl my lashes and apply this, the end result really looks like my lashes but effortlessly better.
I also really love their Super Glow Vitamin C serum. I’ve been using it for 1-2 weeks so far, and when coupled with my PRISM exfoliating glow potion, I feel as though my skin is always fresh and radiant. My only regret is not buying the 3 serum set for these (65 USD), because 28 USD for one bottle on its own is really expensive. I also really want to try Super Bounce hyaluronic acid serum, so I might invest in the set when I get a chance to repurchase.
Glossier’s Generation G lip in Leo is also one of my favourites. They reformulated these last year, and the new Leo is more neutral toned as compared to the older version which runs more warm. Leo is a cocoa brown which can look very intimidating at the start because the brown is so dark in the tube, but when applied on the lips it gives off a very pretty sheer neutral brown tint that is so easy to pull off with any look. Personally, I find that this is a very easy everyday colour that I can just keep in my pockets when I am out.
I also really like their Boy Brow (I use it in Clear) when I am dashing off to work with a bare face but I just want to look neat. This brow gel isn’t clumpy, doesn’t make your brows look unnaturally crispy, and best of all it’s also easy to use. I feel like it does help to shape my brows and make it look neater, but maybe because of the shade I use, I also find that it doesn’t do much other than keep my brows neat. If I want my brows to look fuller, I would still have to use a brow pencil because the gel is clear. I might consider buying Boy Brow in a brown shade the next time, and see if there is more of a difference when used on my brows.
Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser didn’t wow me as I thought it would have. On paper, it was supposed to be a gel-like gentle cleanser that washes away your makeup effortlessly without irritating your skin. Although the cleanser is silky smooth and gentle on my face, it didn’t do a really good job at removing makeup. I’m using it as an AM cleanser now, and it does make my face feel clean and smooth for the start of the day, but it’s really expensive for a cleanser (9 USD for 60ml) so I don’t really think it’s too worth it.
However, out of all these products, the one item I really dislike is the Priming Moisturizer. I don’t know why, but I hate the smell of this product. It has this very strong medical/chemical cream smell that is really unappealing. Plus, the moisturiser doesn't really absorb into my skin, creating this filmy layer that sits on the top of my face. Although the tube was really pretty and I love the packaging, this was just not for me.
All in all, I still think Glossier is a good brand to try out. I would say that their products are good but still relatively affordable. Just a fair warning that some products might not live up to their hype, so it is still best to read reviews from people who have a similar skin type to see how it works for them. With that being said, the products that I do like have become daily staples for me, so overall I think Glossier is a brand that I will keep an eye out for in the future.
