Getting Sticky: How We’ve Fostered Creativity at Super Trashed LA
Much of my show/event producing is social engineering and game design, feedback loops and bonus points. It’s as much to give more of myself, to wring out every ounce of value, as it to make people want to give more of themselves. I’ve been to so many open mics where the evening is only "for" the handful of people telling jokes (much to disinterest to everyone else in proximity). There are so many comedy shows that can feel exclusionary, rendered ephemeral as everyone disperses into the night. It’s probably just to justify how hard I go, how deeply I feel, when I’ve put my all into Courting Comedy, Storking Comedy or Super Trashed. But my philosophy is that in a system of mutual exchange, when everyone is invested, and if we’re all spent afterwards from the rigours of the experience, maybe then there will finally be meaning.
