still thinking over this exchange from ep 18.
Wen Kexing implies that he may be the heir of Healer Valley. (And a couple eps later it's confirmed he is, 'kind of' - I don't care about that.) No, what interests me is - the subtle unspoken conversation Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing are having with each other, while Long Xiao, less importantly, threatens and interrogates them.
When Wen Kexing says he's the heir of Healer Valley, Zhou Zishu looks over at him, as if to ask - is this true? Are you revealing this to me, or just fucking around with our captor? And Wen Kexing looks back at him, cause of course Zhou Zishu knowing who he is - whatever the answer there is - is the most actually important thing. And gives him the tiniest little nod.
And I wasn't sure at the time what he was communicating! Was it 'A-Xu, just so you know, I'm lying to him?' Or was it 'yes, by the way, this is true?' - but the important part is that he's trying to tell Zhou Zishu something, lol. And I can only assume - and it seems to be borne out later - that Zhou Zishu reads his soulmate better than I can <3.
And then the 'oops, didn't work' - seems to imply, but doesn't quite say, that Wen Kexing was, in fact, lying... but. Zhou Zishu knows, from the truth-and-dare game, that - at least up to that point? But maybe he can figure out that it wouldn't change - that Wen Kexing hides things from him, misdirects him, but doesn't outright lie. So does what he says here not count as 'to Zhou Zishu,' because after all he's speaking to Long Xiao? But he still purposefully looks at Zhou Zishu, as if to say - something... and seeming to imply, without stating, is, Zhou Zishu knows, how Wen Kexing tries (??? though, does it really count as 'trying,' given this mutual knowledge???) to pass off statements that aren't true. So since Wen Kexing doesn't say, 'by the way, I'm not'....
Well, Zhou Zishu's trying to figure out something in response to 'oops, didn't work.' I thought at the time it was 'so does this mean - a or b - since all Cretans Wen Kexings are liars - ' But maybe he understood all that in a flash, and has already moved onto thinking through the ramifications of this weirdly sideways admission.
