Oh. My god. Y'all. Behold the faceup @zaksdolls did on my dyed Supia Roda. 😭😭😭
I initially messaged Zak with little to no ideas about how to do this faceup. They were SO HELPFUL. Sent many many idea boards, mockups, and updates like every day. It was the best process I've ever experienced with commissioned BJD customization.
And look at what they made. This is better than my wildest dreams for Roda. And she looks even better in person, the details are so tiny and perfect. She's like a shining jewel.
I'm so very grateful @zaksdolls , thank you SO MUCH.
I am quite stymied by the uneven greening on the older tan Supia Roda I bought. (She's not arrived yet; maybe next week.)
I do not wish to airbrush a whole BJD, because I loathe chipping at the joints. I am always willing to airbrush heads because they only have a cup neck joint, which will not show chipping (and I suede them too so double no chip). Any ball part of a joint will show badly and I cannot abide it.
So that kind of only leaves dye. However I would like this doll to be a light pink brown like my very old Angelsdoll shown below, but I don't think such a light color will obscure the uneven greening at all. So there's my dilemma.
Perhaps a blend of dye, then airbrushing the torso and head (all cup joints) would fix some of the worse striation. I do not know if I can paint match well enough for that. And then the dyed parts will fade slowly while the airbrushed parts not so much.
Already have a dyed doll with massive unevenness that I'm covering in glitter, so not looking for another glitter girl. Also have resin dust phobia so full doll sanding is right out (and I do not believe a light sanding would remove this greening; looks pretty deep).
Oh lord what have I gotten myself into. Open to suggestions.
(Edit: Maybe tattoos?)
Warning doll n*dity under the cut. Showing seller photos of the greening on Supia Roda. Seller bought her this way almost ten years ago, previous owner left near a window wearing clothes.
