I always imagine tiny little people in the characters head holding note cards, trying to find the correct one to put in the slot (mouth)

I noticed, that mostly this phrase is used, when the character knows what's going on but still has the need to point it, out in their head

So I always imagine one of those tiny little people is very sarcastic and has found an extra slot to put in obvious statements and sassy remarks in
