just occurred to me that Flowey is just as curious as us as we are about him. He always directly asks you questions like “why did you do that. What drove you to do that.”

he speculates about you outloud because he cant predict you or put you in an archetype like he does with everyone else, he wants your brain under a microscope to analyze it just like how we like analyzing him. I find that really endearing actually.

had this thought for a while but I feel like yapping today (unorganized rambling about Flowey and other trauma stuff idk these are all old news I think but still):

Flowey has a clear fear of being forgotten.

loveless or not, it doesn't matter. the idea of a world where everything is fine without him clearly bothers him, we can see that by the many times he'd projected being abandoned/forgotten onto Frisk throughout their journey.

the echoe flower bit where he mocks them about Toriel eventually forgetting about them? that was a direct reference to the fact that when he found her for the first time as Flowey he felt replaced after discovering she tried to adopt six more humans after his and Chara's death. that must've STUNG.

"call for help, I dare you. cry out to the darkness. 'mom! dad! someone help!' see what good it does you." Nobody came for HIS pleading when he first woke up as a flower.

why did YOU receive help when you called? its not fair.

when he tried ending himself, finding no purpose in a world without love, why did he regret it SO intensely that he gained the power to reset? It wasn't JUST determination, it was fear of being forgotten.

whats gonna happen after he dies? he's just...gone? forever? with no traces of his existence left?

that very idea scared him.

Its so sad to think about, because you know whats sadder? the fact that he tells you to forget about him at the end.

It must've hurt so much to make that request. but he made it anyway.

He decided to be selfless. what good would everyone seeing his condition do? He doesn't want a repetition of history.

and by that I dont mean him hurtin anyone, oh no. I actually don't FULLY agree with the interpretation that he stayed down to avoid hurting everyone? He's not a rabid animal. he made it clear he doesn't want to hurt anyone anymore for the sake of preserving this outcome. rather, I think because he doesn't want people to try and fix him while knowing its not possible, just like what happened in his many, many resets. He'll only bring feelings of pity and sadness to others. which he can't handle seeing for some reason.

which brings me to my final point, living in the past.

I dont know a definite way for him to follow so he could feel love/develop a soul again, but I do think leaving the underground, and the past in general, would be a great first step. He doesn't need to force himself to be happy, he just needs to give himself a chance to explore, to try to live normally again. maybe then he'll come to accept himself and live more peacefully.

If we're going into my own headcanon territory, maybe his hope, compassion, and even love, will be big enough to develop a vessel again (that being a new soul.)

I love him so much not because I want to fix him, not because he's broken, but because I wanna be that person who he could be lost together with. someone who's willing to pick up the pieces with him, and learn to live normally again. a companion who won't try to find something that- in his words- "isn't there anymore".

maybe by that logic, life on the surface doesn't sound too bad.
