How to Date While in University - Part 2: Online Dating
Hey everyone! It’s now time for part two of our series on dating, and this time we’re delving into the crazy land of online dating. If you haven’t yet read part 1, where we talk about meeting people now’s your chance, even if one of the tips completely invalidates this entire article.
So, whether your dating app of choice is Tinder, Grindr, OkCupid, POF, Scruff or something completely different, always remember these simple tips:
1. People always tell you not to judge a book by its cover, but then suddenly forget to follow their own advice once they get onto a dating app. So, always put your best face forward and choose a great profile picture. However, there are a few rules, most notably, your picture has to include your face, be less than six months old, and show you happy and smiling.
2. Always remember to be your most confident you. You are great and awesome, and anyone would be lucky to date you. Even if you don’t find someone right away, you’ll eventually find the person for you.
3. ALWAYS be honest. Don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t, because eventually people will figure it out. Then again, remember not to be too honest. Remember rule #2, there’s a bunch of awesome shit about you, go with that. And don’t ever pull a Costanza.
4. Be open to all sorts of people. So, you don’t normally date redheads. Well, there’s a lot more to a person than the colour of their hair, and if you’re so stuck on a specific “type”, than you might miss out on all sorts of new things.
5. HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS. Otherwise you’ll always be disappointed. Go in expecting to have tons of messages every day and you’ll be horribly disappointed all the time. Expect nothing, and whenever a cute guy does message you, it’ll feel all the more exciting.
6. NEVER meet somewhere in private. Always meet in public and make sure that someone knows where you are. Remember that there’s never any obligation to stay on a date or go somewhere with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable.
7. Always be honest about your intentions. Don’t make someone think that you want a serious relationship if all you want is a casual fling. There’s no worse feeling than that of being used.
8. Don’t get too obsessed by online dating or you might miss out on things that happen in the real world. Let life happen and don’t force anything. Also, if ever online dating stops being fun, just stop. Don’t let your phone become a source of bad feelings.
So that’s it for this part of the series, the next part will be up soon. Oh, and remember:
There that should keep the censors happy
