I can’t believe they made Sus Antigoon hot. O.o Like... damn!
I was suddenly reminded of Suske and Wiske (sometimes translated in English as ‘Spike and Suzy’ or ‘Willy and Wanda’), a Belgian comic book series I used to read a lot as a kid.
I still read it, but a new, edgy remake of it called the Chonicles of Amoras. XD
I gave away most of my old original issues, except for a few. XD The ones with my favourite character as a kid. He was this silly cartoony ghost character, an ancestor of one of the main characters Suske (Spike/Willy). Sus Antigoon was his name. He kinda ranged from being a useful character and a bit of a leader to being a liability and annoying. XD But I liked him. (Though I always preferred his ‘useful leader’ personality.)
His story was that he was an explorer that captained a ship called the Antverpia. He and his crew got stranded on an island, which they named ‘Amoras’. They started a new society there, with Sus Antigoon as king. The problem was that Sus was a huge alcoholic and died of alcohol abuse not much later. He was punished for this in the afterlife by being forced to haunt the island of Amoras with a bottle chained to his ankle. XD And that’s how the main characters met him generations later.
Like I said, his character changed a lot and I preferred when they porptrayed him as a slightly more serious character and a decent leader. I also liked how they protray his sort of fatherly bond with his descendant Suske, because Suske grew up without knowing his family and though they’re generations apart, Sus was still the only family he knew. Suske was apparently even named after Sus.
I dunno, I thought it was surprisingly wholesome for such a silly character and story. XD
Suske and Wiske wasn’t always the best series and it was pretty dang silly. But I enjoyed it. And I really like the edgy remake, it has a lot of style I think. XD
Sorry for the long ramble I was just thinking about this and needed to share.
