oh wowie i didnt expect someone to actually ask me for an explanation on susan 😭 but i can't deny a request so ill just try to make this as clear and quick as possible though it's literally going to be the worst explanation post ever and it's just 5 minutes of me trying to make sense 😞
Tbh my Susan's not really an anti - heroine or a villain , but she really hates how annoying both the Laughinstock crew and Jolly hounds are because of how they would always bicker and be sugarcoated at times . She hangs out with the rubberfishes more since theyre more chill with her since theyre also freaks plus the horace and susan dynamic is great . Thus why i made her somewhere equally as monsterous as them . causeeeee i sorta wanna make all except the laughingstock and Jollyhounds crew look so associated with eachother . As in aesthetic , vibe , etc . Plus mermaids and Sirens are supposed to be scary saooooooo
Gonna go offtopic but yea heres the concepts . The Rubberfishes has a gothic - deep water creature - circus freak vibe , The King's Dice has a royalty navy vibe , The Hog's has a whimsical fairytale hippie Earthy type vibe , Tarantula crew has some sort of gothic , whimsical twee vibe , The NPHC , Sariah ( who is the daughter of Earl in my au ) and Earl's goons ( my ocs ) have some sort of ballet - royalty - french revolution vibe .
Reasoning why the Laughingstocks have no specific vibe is because they're meant to look so out of place from the other crews , just like Janice herself , its like theyre physical manifestations of what a real group / crew would look like to her . Theyre more likely to represent a dysfunctional family rather than a aesthetic group of friends thus why they aren't really respected much since they're so randomized .
I don't have a clear explanation on the Jollyhounds but like i'm only going to explain that Milo just wanted a crew for himself without thinking twice so he just scooped up random people with random aesthetics and qualities . Maybe they have a wacky - all over the place type of vibe that suprisingly clashes so well with eachother . We get a Black metal enthusiast with corpse paint ( Black chin ) , A victorian era - sherlock holmes detective mixed with a 70s hippie stoner guy ( Roger ) , A abominable freaky pink creature made from candy ( Kimothy ) , A Star child that has been away from the galaxy since birth having the astroboy / Slniecko motif ( Starson ) , A catfish - like half merperson thats literally formed from rum ( Bubba , he's different than the wiki cause i don't really like his wiki self ) , and a Dragon thats clumsy and references rap and hiphop music idk why but its funny . They're like a band of 80s / 90s rockstars like Guns n Roses and whatnot .
(off topic AGAIN ) Oh yea the Bubba thing so like theres this species i made up where theres a type of merpeople species that formed from beverages dumped into the sea like tea and rum etc and it has a heavily influence on their personality . Thus explaining why Bubba acts drunk all the time despite being sober because hes formed from RUM .
anyways back to topic the uhhhhhh sea-weed looking flowy things under her exposed ribcage are basically Crinoids , aka spider lillies . Theyre freaky but magestic as hell just like susan entirely . They give off sea alien vibes .
I wanted her to resemble more of a rotting fish and just searched up on google " scary fish " and got jumpscared by a bunch of gross shit . I'm never doing that again but just kinda wanted to make her have a rubberfishes motif . She's literally a zombie mermaid . Its like , the movie ' Mermaid in a Manhole " but its not really gory or disgusting , at all in how i view her redesign . Don't watch mermaid in a manhole though its nasty as fuckkkkkk with all the pus and ooze ewww and the whole movie is just the mermaid throwing herself around in the bathtub while the intense body horror gets worse . ☹️
oh yea the bug on the right shoulder is one of those Parasites that stick onto the fish's mouth and replaces its tounge . I kinda like to think that Susan will save the rubberfishes from merpeople , storms , big tides , the NPHC etc and they heavily depend on her just like how a parasite will depend on its host , except the rubberfishes really like Susan and aren't really leaching off of her , they just have it on the high seas easily because of how easily she can control the waves plus her mean girls relationship with Horace really makes it better . The parasite is sort of like a little friend to her , it parallels Joe's relationship with the worm in his head except the parasite doesn't degrade her 24/7 .
The tail has like maggots crawling out of it and eyes that literally blink . She also wears corpses of fish and humans . She's like really disturbing and her being chained to that rock was for that reason . She's coocoo
Idk what its called but theres that one troupe where like some scary ass shit happens behind a person/animal's face and its literally revealed . Idk how to explain it but you get the drift just by looking at the picture . Yea , sirens are actually supposed to be scawwyyyy , thought that making her have this " false face to trick victims " motif would help . rather than have only the voice lure sailors and pirates . It's the only pretty thing about her while everything else is just euwuueuuhhhhh . It's basically just the whole "pretty face ugly body " shit going around on tiktok which is ummmmmmm ok ಠ_ಠ. Reasoning on why she has two mouths is because of the quotes and things about the meanings of "two tounges " , an example of the meaning is " marked by deliberate deceptiveness especially by pretending one set of feelings and acting under the influence of another. " , which kinda does have a similarity to the term " two - faced " . Susan's a whole manipulator to strangers using the only guise to trick them into saving her only to get their ship destroyed n all that . One of the mouths is used to sing and the other is used to speak . She also tricks the laughingstock crew into giving her info for the Rubberfishes under the guise of the fake face and fake kindness .
Yeaaaaa as you can see i'm really bad at explaining and i thought i cooked with smth like this Ó╭╮Ò this really isn't a final redesign of her or anything its something i drew just for fun but didn't really wanna use it it cause 1. it doesn't clash well with the show's tone in my vers because ... yknow , and 2 . its gonna be a pain to draw every time . SO , im probably going to put her in a horror / infection au probably ? It's fun to draw and I don't wanna abandon / waste a design despite how hideous it looks .
