These characters start off with the first group of 6 men, in 1914, and follows along Mirna's son Radomir, or 'Raf', as he joins the American air force in WWII to fight in the European Theatre, in a b-17 bomber.
After the Great War is declared, Medomir and Mirna, being Serbians in Germany, try to escape the country. Josef uses whatever influence he has to help them get on a boat to the US, but Medomir ultimately gets killed by German police as he tries to buy time for his wife to flee. A single mother with twins, life in America was brutal, but it doesn't crush her.
Mirna manages to raise two healthy, smart and strong boys. But Rafael might discover a sleeping magic he's always had at the worst possible time...
