Kibum wasn’t happy and it showed in the furrowed eyebrows and the arms crossed over his chest. Myungsoo beside him was subtler at hiding his displeasure at the current situation, but Kibum didn’t even want to try to pretend he didn’t mind.
“I can’t accept this,” Kibum told Professor Im, chin raising in defiance. “As qualified this man is in regards of investigation, werewolves are a dangerous matter, professor, we all know that. And in spite of that, the next thing you are telling me aside that h e will get involved in this case, is that I am taking him with me for field work. He is a human, putting a human’s life in risk shouldn’t even be considered.”
The Nephilim knew he might sound too harsh and rude, but his priority was defending those that lacked the strength to do so. He didn’t know the detective’s abilities, and he didn’t doubt he was the best of the best given that Professor Im seemed to trust him with this mission right away, but there wouldn’t be a group of Shadowhunters to cover his back while they all tracked the packs of werewolves they were looking for. There was no way the half-angel would accept this mission without giving a say on the matter.
“Kibum,” professor Im began, taking a step closer to the Shadowhunter. “This is a delicate matter. Those packs of werewolves we suspect of these recent killings and disappearances are not rogues. If I send an entire group to werewolf territory, it would violate the Accords and start a battle that could end up in a terrible disaster.”
“I know that, but–”
The Professor sighed as he walked towards Sungjoon, both arms on his shoulders. “I need Myungsoo for another assignment. You know our hands are full, so will you keep being difficult or are you going to be there and look after this man? If you don’t, I will assign someone else.”
Kibum heard in the professor’s tone the hidden warning. Someone else meant someone who might not be fond of humans, who might call them ‘Mundanes’, someone who might not protect the detective in the way he was willing to. He looked at his Parabatai, and it seemed he also was on the same page as Kibum was. Sighing, he pinched the bridge of his nose, nodding.
“Perfect. Success to the both of you. Myungsoo, come with me,” the Director said not without giving both men a pat on their shoulder. Myungsoo smiled at Kibum once, and then it was only the shadowhunter and the detective in the room.
Kibum looked up. “I’m sorry if just now you might have thought I have something against you, believe me, I don’t,” he sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Have you dealt before with werewolves in such a direct way?”
