Weekend in Stockholm Sweden Indulge in the cosmopolitan charm of Stockholm as you unwind and explore this picturesque cityscape.
One step too many. Let me tell you something about Swedes and how they like to spend their free weekends: they do outdoor sporty stuff! As a big city girl the rules of the weekends are as follows: you drink on friday until you pass out or your conscience awakens, on saturday you wake up after 2pm and do something useful, in the evening you go out to have a dinner and end up working on your liver stamina, and on sundays you wake up for brunch and down at least 1 bottle of Prosecco after which you catch a pretentious movie in a studio movie theater. In Sweden, I had to find that lost sense of respect for my body and start the healthy living. Kind of. Not really. I try. I’m actually a very bad influence. My friends fly over and bring lots of vodka. Never mind. Back to this weekend hike. I will never again believe the nonchalant response of my husband: it’s a calm walk, no more then 500m. It is not calm, it is a fight to keep your limbs in place and not to crack your skull. It is not short, it is 3k back and forth uphill and downhill and uphill again. It is a constant feeling of danger from rocks, hidden rocks and that slippery mud road. The road of sweat, tears and ironically a mega super marathon of 65k. Welcome to Nimis, welcome to my new healthy life!
Smelly fish smelly fish…! Let me take a moment to talk about surströmming! Hard word, but all it stands for is you will need to burn your clothes, your house and your nose to get over it! This is the nastiest smelling fermented anything you will face in your lifetime. I did not smell a rotten body, but this should be close. Why ohh why did I agree to participate in this crusade of smell, ohhh wait - love! Yes, love for my husband and his family and a thought i was brought up in Russia and no smell is bad enough…well it is! Divorce was called upon me for not participating and now i lay in bed sprinkled in perfume mixed with year old fish odor and i want to divorce Sweden! Love is a potent thing! Off to sleep with an open balcony door at 9C! Kill me now! Sweet dreams.
First BBQ on! Born in Moscow and spending most of my adult life in Warsaw I’ve learned to share. Weather with the annoying cousins, smelly classmates or friends (the latest is super fun!). I grew up with 30 people family dinners where everyone got a doggie bag and a cab home. Ohh and if you come to my home and you really liked that painting on my wall, chances are you got it this second. Swedes, on the other hand, will throw a bigger tantrum then Joey. Imagine the face expression of a girl whom I offered half a lobster. I occasionally steal a spoon of salad and it keeps me going. From now on - sharing is caring and all my Swedish friends know i will steal their salad and will have that orphan cider after 2am.
