Fellas this is just a broken frame right. I don't want to send a battery bomb to Nintendo. It wasn't like this yesterday before I dropped it.

We're trying to get a Switch battery replacement kit for a friend, and they're $20 cheaper on Amazon as compared to iFixIt, but we don't know if that's because they're lower-quality or less trustworthy or something. Anyone know?

So a little over a year ago I picked up my switch and realized my right joy con was cracking and was a little distraught about it because I have the Splatoon edition switch, and replacing the joy cons themselves would be really hard/expensive. I finally got a replacement shell in, and actually was able to fix it myself .w.

This is what it looked like when I started, if you look closely you can see one of the screws actually popped out, which was also concerning

But I did what a lot of people do when presented with an unfamiliar task: Pulled up a YouTube tutorial and had at it. It was a little tedious because apparently my screwdrivers aren't magnetic and I kept dropping the tiny screws, but I did it, and now I can play my games with my original joy cons again

It was fun, as soon as I got the thing open the cracked pieces just fell apart

Nintendo Switch Repair Review

Today I am going to be writing something a little different than usual. I don’t normally share my experiences with stuff like this, but when I was looking into having my Joycon repaired, I couldn’t find much information about Nintendo’s official repair service. So I wanted to share my experience just in case anyone stumbles across this and is wondering the same things that I was.

The Repair Process: In December of 2019, the left button on my left Joycon stopped working randomly, so I panicked because I wasn’t sure how much it was going to cost me to repair it or buy a new one. It hadn’t been long since I had first purchased my Switch, so I thought that maybe I would be saved and the console would still be under warranty. So on 12/25/2019 I submitted a repair ticket via Nintendo’s website and received an email saying that they received it and would follow up soon with more information.

I decided to call Nintendo support the following day, 12/26/2019, to try to verify whether my repair would be covered under warranty or not. The employee that I spoke with was very helpful and friendly, telling me that my repair should be covered under warranty, as it showed that my price would be $0 and they would not change the price on me unexpectedly regardless of what repairs actually needed to be done.

Then on 12/27/2019, I received another email from Nintendo and UPS providing me with instructions on how to send them my broken Joycon. They provide the packing label, so shipping was free. I packed it up and dropped it off with UPS that same day.

On 1/7/2020 I received an email from Nintendo informing me that my Joycon had been received.

Only two days after, on 1/9/2020, I got my final email from Nintendo providing me with a tracking number and saying that my Joycon had been fixed and shipped back to me via UPS.

Today is 1/14/2020 and I just received my Joycon in the mail.

The Repair Itself: I popped my Joycon on my Switch and everything seems to work perfectly now, including the left button which was my initial problem. It seems as though Nintendo may have just sent me a completely new Joycon instead of fixing my original one, unless they changed the shell on my Joycon as part of the repair (I’m no expert, so who knows lol). Either way, my problem has been fixed free of charge.

Summary: I am extremely satisfied with my experience with my official Nintendo Switch Repair. The total process took roughly 21 days total. My Joycon was fixed in a timely manner, with no hassle, and at no cost to me.
