BLOG POST #6: It’s Almost over

Okay guys I’m almost done with my hours! Only 10 hours left.. Well technically only 5 hours but i’m doing an extra shift just to make it an even week. 

So let's recap some exciting moments. On day one, I recall going to the bathroom and the sink spraying water ALL over my shirt. Thank God I was so nervous that day my body heat dried it in like 2 seconds but I almost had a heart attack. During the first few weeks, I sent out an email that really pissed off one guy.. Really thought I was gonna get fried that day. My favourite memory though is actually meeting everyone and forming friendly relationships. 

I hope that when my hours are done I won’t have to leave and I can continue working there alongside great industry colleagues.

BLOG POST #5: Smooth Sailing

I’m trying not to jinx anything but We’re doing the damn thing guys! Another Successful week here at the hotel. Everyone is easier to get along with and they all offer a lot for me to learn from.

My supervisor is very good at building relationships with future clients and partners. He talks very genuinely and honestly which people seem to really connect with. I find his approach very successful and hopefully I can learn and pick up the art of it all.

The catering manager is very friendly and makes me feel at home. She was once a sale coordinator so she's been very helpful in guiding me through the best way to do the job I'm given.

Everyone else offers get support in learning how to conduct myself within a new job and specific a hotel. It’s been a good experience so far, I’m very much finding myself here and can start to see why they need me and my set of skills. My supervisor did say i was the best intern they’ve had so i would say i'm doing pretty damn good!

I did start to learn how to use Opera this week, It’s a system used to book the hotel rooms. My supervisor slowly ran through booking a block for a group tour coming to the hotel soon. He always lets me takes notes and practice. No one is ever hard on me when showing me how to do new things. There certainly is a lot of new terms and steps to it but i pick things up fast so i should be just fine!

Our First big event since I’ve been at the hotel is coming up, one that I can actually attend. It's the Father's Day event and I was actually invited to bring my family - with one complimentary pass!  It really makes me feel like a team of the team the way everyone includes me in things. I am the intern but i’m not treated like how they are in the movies that for sure.

BLOG POST #4: Syd the Bless Intern

This week was enjoyable and normal. Yes... that's right actually normal. I did not mess up one thing and I surprisingly felt like I did a good job.

I continued to work at the Sales Coordinators desk helping the Sales, Catering and Tour manager with different tasks and such. Thankfully I didn't have to go on the road. It isn’t as bad as the first time but I definitely still get nervous having to talk to a variety of strangers in rapid concession.

I’ve started to get more comfortable in my duties at the sales coordinators desk. I’ve been answering the phones, taking event inquiries, inputting and filing past BEO’S and preparing the binder with the upcoming ones. I’ve also been continuing to create the Reader-boards and accompanying details. It's a good feeling to know your doing well.

I’m still managing some of the social media accounts, mainly instagram. I’ve created some nice flyers with room for growth of course. I brought my professional camera in and took some really nice footage of the grounds and i’ve been able to use that for better instagram posts!
