More Sylga stuff, because doing commentary like this is fun and I'm too much of a coward to post my writing in full:
This is Sylga and her mother trying to have an honest conversation about 'the incident' (more on this at another time.) Of course, this is something that doesn't happen because they're incapable of meeting each other at this level.
With Sylga, I wanted to explore a type of character that I've never written before: a child with parents who did try their best (all things considered!) but still failed her anyway.
Something happening in the background here is that Yce, for all her whimsy, did want to talk about it. She's worried sick about how all of this has affected Sylga, but for Sylga, it's long established that this is not something she can approach her parents with. Her parents, who never really had a clue how to handle her emotions. And it hardly matters anyway, because something else she's internalised: just get on with it; deal with it later. She'll talk about flame-resistant hamsters or whatever because it's better to laugh than to brood.
Her mother will go with the flow so long as Sylga does, because that must mean her daughter is okay.
One of the coolest things about my gw2 rp gang is that we're very "no rules" about how our characters can/can't affect the world at large, so I get to write shit like this:
I love the idea that Ellen Kiel was basically Sylga's unofficial "lawyer" / begrudging guardian for a while. Like, throwing the Aetherblades into Fort Marriner is fair game but what do you do when that Aetherblade pirate is a kid? What do you do when that kid's a Zephyrite?
And she's no longer a kid, so meeting Ellen Kiel again, after leaving Lion's Arch and spreading her wings, and (somewhat) processing all the shit that has happened, can put so much into context.
Bonus:
Animal Crossing Sylga goes fishing at 4am on the dot and sleeps most of the afternoon. Her nickname for you is "stick in the mud" but she'll help out if you're strapped for bells. She works for Tom Nook but hates his guts and will look the other way if you shoplift. She's in a messy situationship with Sable and it's the worst kept secret in town. On flea market day you'll find her selling off subpar furniture she built and put together herself, tries to lowball you for that 50 inch LCD TV you put up for sale.
