This is one of those classic really-really-specific stream of consciousness rambling introspection fics iykyk but it’s also Gretto/Sylvie which is rare for me
i want this to happen I want them to be canon
So, Sylvie wanted eternal beauty and she achieved that goal. Gretto had told her that people are more than their looks, that they'd stay together for all eternity. They would probably become the first eternal couple. And yet their dreams were shattered by Szilard. And, not only Gretto is gone, but Sylvie survived that time because she didn't drink the potion. She achieved her goal, but she also has to live with the weight of having lost the love of her life.
The goal of eternal beauty spared her from being eaten that time, and also left the eternal wound of losing her loved one...
An eternal lonely beauty...
what do you think the sleeping situation was like for maiza, sylvie, nile, and czeslaw in the 2000s? motels, in the car, camping, i got no idea. or how beds would be sorted...
Gosh, I’ve never really thought about it before...! I suspect, given that Maiza’s in organized crime, they can generally pay for a hotel or motel room when there are hotel or motel rooms to be had. Rooms with two double beds, probably? But I suppose that starts getting pricier once they’ve actually got Nile and Sylvie with them--but Nile and Sylvie both seem like they would be... less inclined to put up with inconveniences. Sylvie because she seems like she’d prefer comfort, and Nile because he’s just generally grumpy.
Camping would make sense, but I don’t feel like they mention any camping gear...? And the car doesn’t exactly sound huge? So I guess there’s some car-sleeping--which, again, is probably more practical before Sylvie and Nile get involved. Was Nile in the trunk at the beginning of 2001 because he was napping and wanted the space to stretch out but Czes still needed somewhere to sit? Is that what was going on? I never put that together before.
(Maybe they had a larger vehicle before they decided to drive deep into the woods, left that in a garage somewhere, and rented a smaller car leading up to 2001? idek)
As for rooming situations, when they do get hotels or motels, I bet Czes winds up rooming with Sylvie and Maiza winds up rooming with Nile. This checks out with Nile’s (disingenuously) stated worry that Maiza might accidentally eat him while dreaming of melons. That would also suggest that they share a bed, at least on some occasions? I suspect Czes would be uncomfortable sharing a bed with Sylvie, though, given that he’s not actually 10 years old.
This is 0% actual answer and 100% further questions resulting from speculation, sorry about that
