#475 || DUAN JING TING & ZHĀNG ÀO YUÈ (张傲月) / Contemporary - CONTEMPORARY | MUSIC: «La Califfa» by Sarah Brightman | VERSION: SYTYCD China Season 1 (2013) | INTRA-SEASONAL PLACEMENT: #6

During his season Ao Yue was involved in a staggering number of routines where he played a rather, uhm, static role, either for the sake of conveying some sort of message the choreographer had in mind or simply because his strength made him an excellent fork lift as demonstrated in this routine. Also because it probably made it easier for the viewers to keep admiring his handsome face. Just speculation on my part. During the ten contestants finale all remaining dancers ended up dancing with a non-contestant, whether they knew them beforehand or whether they were chosen by the producers I don’t know. I have the feeling it’s the former since all routines performed that night looked highly polished. Tbh I actually find this routine rather hard to digest simply because it’s so slow and static. But at the same time it’s so calm and soothing that I can’t seem to be able to look away.

#499 || ZHŪ JIÉ JÌNG 朱洁静 CONTEMPORARY & ALL-STAR - CONTEMPORARY    MUSIC: «天空 / Sky» by 王菲 / Faye Wong     VERSION: SYTYCD China Season 1 (2013) Top 10 Week / Finale | INTRA-SEASONAL PLACEMENT: #7       I remember being super excited when SYTYCD China first started, but then exams happened and I dropped the ball on it (take notes, guys, it's going to be a common reoccurence). I also never really got back into it because it that season was over in a blink since it only contained six liveshows, starting with 26 contestants and a Top 10 Finale with four double eliminations in-between. And there I thought we had it bad with the double eliminations starting from the eighth US season onward. Voting was also restricted to the judges and live audience members, because public voting is and was pretty much a no-go when it comes to reality shows in China the last time I checked, for rather obvious reasons. As for the dancers, Zhū Jié Jìng caught my eye during auditions, not only with her dancing but also with her beauty. I mean, look at her, that girl has supermodel looks (not so much in this routine because unitards rarely bring out the best in someone, but the rest of the time). Like SYTYCD India they couldn't wait until a potential second season and brought in non-SYTYCD-related All-Stars for the top 10 liveshow so I have no idea who the male dancer beside her is, but that shouldn't be much of a concern since it's pretty much a flawless performance on a technical level. If there's one thing I want to nit-pick is that the background images are almost too much. I know it's supposed to be pretty, pleasant and harmonious, but there's only that much of an ethereal atmosphere I can take before I take flight.

Dude. That guy is really something. I would love to watch SYTYCD China, but the fact that I only took one semester of Chinese my freshman year of college is hampering that endeavor. I also can't figure out the format to save my life. But that popper is sooooo good. 

(But you're right, the World Cup is taking over my life right now. I swear if Spain loses again tomorrow, I'm burning my jersey and punching a hole in the wall.)
