two wheels; teddy & margot
Wait... that wasn’t right. No, it was the furthest thing from right as possible. See, here’s the thing -- - last time Margot checked, she owned a 2014 Dodge Charger with a slightly-worn paint job and four brand new wheels. The key, of course, being four of them. That was the number of wheels on hher baby -- - affectionately named Francis, after the co-founder of Dodge - -- when she went to sleep, and the number of wheels she expected to see when she woke up. Instead, Margot woke to find the two front wheels intact while the back ones had apparently turned into four cinderblocks overnight. As much as she wanted to believe that the world worked in mysterious ways -- - the Lord giveth tires, and the Lord replaceth them with building materials - -- she was well aware of what had actually transpired.
For the third time, Margot had become a victim of Midtown’s ever-increasing crime rate.
“Come on,” was all she managed to shout, punctuated with a grumble so dramatic that even the most spoiled of starlets would have turned green with envy. She only got one day off, after all, and she had rather hoped to spend it doing things she actually enjoyed. Instead, she stomped her way to her trunk -- - at least the electronics still worked - -- and opened the compartment that revealed a spare tire. It wasn’t work she had to do before, and she was surprised at the size of it. Could her car actually be supported on something so small? Did it actually matter? There was only one tire, and two missing wheels. The goddess Fortuna was not on her side. Nor was it on the side of the man she desperately stopped after a failed attempt at calling a mechanic.
“Hello? Hello!” Givenchy didn’t make shoes for running, but Margot managed to half-hobble until she could tap the shoulder of a stranger. “Hey -- - hey! Hi there! Hello, I’m Margot, and -- - um... This is Francis,” a vague motion was made to the car, something between exasperation and genuine remorse, “And I -- - we - -- were wondering if you could help us out? I just tried calling a couple of mechanics, but no dice. This hasn’t ever really happened before, so... I... don’t really know what to do.”
