New Order || Freddie and Ruby
Freddie stood back from his canvas, stripped to the waist in the warm studio, smeared and speckled with paint, his music turned up nice and loud despite the relative lateness of the hour, and pulled a vaguely dissatisfied face at his work which he then turned down at his palette, still unhappy with the colour.
“What do you think, Ol?” he called out to Ollie, who was lying on the sofa nearby, “Should I just call it a night? I might hate it a bit less with fresh eyes tomorrow...”
Ollie concurred - mostly because his fairy was just looking to be agreed with at this point, and since the little Chin didn’t give a toss either way, he was happy to oblige - and Freddie abandoned his paint and the palette knife he’d been using on a table adjacent to his easel, taking up his half-empty wineglass instead and coming over to flop down next to his familiar on the sofa; pulling his mobile out of his pocket and sending a slightly naughty picture to Ephram, before turning to his friend again.
“Do you know how we were talking not long ago about whether you might be able to speak with Ruby now that she’s a wolf?” he asked, “Well... do you think it’s strange if I get in touch? I mean, it’s been ages since I have... but we see one another all the time at the station, and things aren’t nearly so awkward anymore...”
Freddie shrugged, giving Oliver a bit of a smile. “I’ve just been thinking lately that it might be nice to be proper friends, you know? If we could be. After all, she and Ephram have managed it...”
The fairy chuckled a bit ruefully. “I mean, obviously, it’s not the same with her and I, and she may tell me to take a running jump - but still, nothing ventured, yeah?”
Once again, after a moment’s consideration, Ollie concurred - the fairy made a valid point - so Freddie sent the message before he could talk himself out of it.
