📍 #Rwanda goes to war against Skin Bleaching! ➖ Rwanda will no longer tolerate the trade and use of lightening products on its territory. The alert came from Head of State Paul Kagame who urged his police department, as well as his Ministry of Health to open a nationwide campaign on the issue. ➖ The campaign that should start in the coming months should be done at several levels. First with manufacturers, sellers and resellers of these products to stop distribution. Then, among the populations who sometimes use these products out of ignorance, according to the Rwandan authorities. ➖ Reason evoked by Rwanda to crack down on lightening products, health hazards, among which are prominent skin cancers. According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Diane Gashumba, the operation will be governed by the law governing the use of lightening products, already in place. ➖ Depigmentation has become a social phenomenon in many African countries, where lightening products abound in popular markets. Recently, a controversy erupted in Nigeria around the inauguration of a cream of its kind by an American starlet. ➖ Some countries such as Côte d’Ivoire and Kenya have tried to regulate banishing these products. But the lack of follow-up and the multiplication of illicit networks sometimes encourage the spread of the phenomenon. * ⛔NOTE: Not all products that purport to lighten the skin are illegal, but many creams from outside the EU contain chemicals banned under safety regulations. These include mercury and hydroquinone – which with prolonged use are linked to poisoning, skin damage and liver and kidney malfunction – and corticosteroids, which in the UK are prescription-only products. Misuse of corticosteroid creams is associated with thinning of the skin, an increased chance of skin cancer and, counterintuitively, darkening of the skin. ➖ Source: #theguardian #taarifa 📷 Photo Credit: #khoudiadiop @the_real_melaningoddess ➖ #alinedaily #latestnews #africa #africaeverythingispossible #blackgirlmagic #naturalbeauty #melaninmagic #melaninqueen #melaningoddess #blackmelanin #melaninpopping #chocolate #blackgirlpower #mgimagesstudios #melaninphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqy-uqug6FZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3c1nvhr1qcco
