“I doubt he’s told you about his attempt at winning the heart of his first crush.” She said before covering her mouth to giggle. “Let’s see if I can tell this correctly... So, at the edge of our village, there is a large tree. And I do mean large. It wasthe place where all the children gathered to play, boys and girls alike. Now, I’mnot quite sure what happened exactly. What I do know is this; On one fateful day, Priscilla, the fair maiden which won Dagran’s heart, announced that whichever boycould climb to the top of the tree and bring her back a blooming flower would win her heart.” 

“So, all the boy began climbing at once. Kicking and clawing to knock the one next to them off. All for this little tease of a girl. Luckily my little Dagger hadn't been caught in the mix. My boy used his brains and went around the back of the tree and made it tothe top first. Safely, I might add. But...” She paused and burst into a fit of laughter.

“When he reached the top, he grabbed the biggest, most beautiful flower there was, but on his way down he came across some very, very unhappy squirrels. The poor lad... It was a long way down from there. ‘I hit every damn branch there was’ he told me. Of course,I tried to comfort him the best I could, but it was quite hard with the sound of his father’s laughter behind me.”

“The children laughed at him for days... All except Priscilla, who was too angry with him to laugh. And I’ll tell you why that is. You see, when Dagran finally reached the ground, faced all the laughing children. Priscilla was among them. But still, she stood there, expect-ing to receive her flower. ‘she put on her sweetest smile’ he told me.  ‘you could practicallyhear her jaw hit the ground when i walked straight past her’ he said with a proud smirk. My boy... Instead of giving the flower to her, he said he’d give it to a woman who he knew loved him, and truly appreciate the gesture. And indeed, I did.”
