“Rosie!” Harry shouted joyfully from somewhere over their heads, and then they heard a “woah” and the creak of something old and wooden, and looked up just in time to see Harry, holding one of the fencing swords from the training room, balanced on the upper bannister of the mezzanine stairs, his body twisting lithely away from a flashing flurry of something.
hello! this is the first time i’ve done something in my… actual style on here in forever, but what better cause for it than tacky’s new incredible, epic fic. this piece is a gift from @sweet-s0rr0w and @maesterchill!
like the characters of this story, i’m blessed with good friends in every universe i inhabit, especially this one. i was completely swept up by what it must have felt like to be in that library - a heavy, hard-won, sudden happiness, the kind that often appears in tacky’s work. i felt the need to do something that would visually translate the immense detail, whimsy and familiarity of that moment.
the chapter title comes from a wilfred owen poem, and i continued to borrow from him for the piece - the big sigil made by malfoy and rosie, as well as the small ones helping harry and draco duel, are all coded from lines from two of his poems.
from training day:
harry - none else may meet me till I wear my crown
draco - my renown be the clean beauty of speed and pride of style
the big sigil malfoy and rosie are casting comes from owen’s poem the end and it spells out: all death annul, all tears assuage.
i hope you all go and read this incredible story (and tacky's entire back catalog) and i hope you're all happy and safe forever.
When you decide to bind a book using black on black, it's not going to be easy to photograph. Just in case you were wondering.
@toomuchplor and I decided to do a little exchange of this fantastic fic, and this was the one I sent to her.
It's a long, long, long fic (274k) (and yet, I still didn't want it to end) and I couldn't decide if I wanted to bind it all in one volume and attempt to round it, or just leave it flat, even though it would be very thick, but then it occurred to me (or a friend suggested) that I could split it into two volumes!
So that's what I did. You know what was really cool? I divided it at the halfway point, after chapter 10, which worked out well. The page count was very similar, and the second volume had 11 chapters, so it was all very even.
But what I discovered was that the last line of chapter 10 is the same as the very last chapter of the book! I don't know if it was a coincidence or on purpose, but I thought it was neat. (I suppose that could be considered a spoiler which is why I'm not specifying what the actual sentence is, so please put this out of your mind if you haven't read this yet and you find yourself at the end of chapter 10.)
So anyway. Okay. I now had two volumes and had to decide how I wanted to differentiate them. I was going to do one white and one black, and while that would have looked cool, I fear it would have insinuated some kind of meaning (light vs dark) that isn't necessarily like, the first half vs the second half. And one of the ideas that had been knocking around my head was "searchlights". So that's where I went with the covers. I wanted all black, and I found a great sparkly black HTV (sorta starry nightish, you know) and went from there. I'm quite happy with how it came out!
Except I meant for the two searchlights to be facing away from each other when you put both volumes next to each other, but if that's the only mistake I made, I can live with that.
I'm especially proud of the silhouettes on the spine, they both started as photographs that I pulled into Adobe Capture and was able to turn into SVGs so they could be cut by my silhouette. And I'm extra proud of my Silhouette for keeping Harry's glasses intact. (I tried just finding clip art of silhouettes (too many uses of that word here) but for whatever reason, most silhouettes are of businessmen?!? Anyway. It all worked out.
The title pages for each volume are slightly different too. The first has one figure, the second has two. Just a little thing.
The bookmark charms are a little 1 and 2 I made with shrinky dink material.

Summary:
Ilya stretches, back pressing against the glass of the shower door, then peeling away with a sharp, wet slurp. “No sex for playoffs is stupid idea. Like I tell you, Hollander, all these rituals are sign of a weak mind.”
Five times Ilya and Shane almost had sex but didn't, plus the one time they almost didn't...

I had a lot of fun finding/using artworks with circles, lines, and shapes to symbolize different worlds/universes and/or the passage of time...
Artworks used, in order:
"Several Circles" by Wassily Kandinsky (1926)
"To all appearances, it was a hand of flesh and blood just like my own" by Odilon Redon (1896) — A ghostly hand that fits the plot. The artwork's title goes with the fic so well too...
"(#2) (from series, Quantum)" by Garo Antreasian (1966)
"The story of the sun, moon, and stars (1898)" by Agnes Giberne — inspired by the summary "Somewhere along the way, Draco realizes he's been thinking in lines, when he should have been thinking in circles." The original artwork comes with a caption 'Stars whose distances are well-known'... I really feel that it fits since Draco was named after a constellation... Also, the star-circles have numbers on them, which could be interpreted as H/D through different ages...
Max Brückner’s Collection of Polyhedral Models (1900) — Exploring different parallel universe versions of yourself... the more things change, the more they stay the same.
"Construction (SM lg71)" by László Moholy-Nagy (1924) — some mild spoilers for the fic! inspired by the phrases "...plot a path through the many universes such that he would never die." / "flickering through timelines? Just getting glimpses, really" .
"Fish Magic" by Paul Klee (1925)
"The Terrace at Saint-Germain, Spring" by Alfred Sisley (1875)
"Arrival of the Normandy Train, Gare Saint-Lazare" by Claude Monet (1877)
"Charing Cross Bridge: Fog on the Thames" by Claude Monet (1903) — referenced in the fic. i try to pay attention!
"Boy with Kite" by Candido Portinari (1947) — Harry is a precious little lamb. more elaboration here
i’ve been making penguin classics-style covers for fics i have saved on my kindle, as inspired by zeziliazink and bubu0h’s works!
I read this as it was being posted and it is such a well-crafted story!
Harry Potter defeated Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2nd, 1998.
But what if he didn't?
Seven years after the Battle, and Harry is locked in a war he can't seem to win. The last thing he needs is one Draco Malfoy arriving into his HQ to disrupt everything—let alone two Draco Malfoys.
This book is heavy!
I made the font 1pt smaller than what I usually go with and it still ended up at nearly 700 pages.
More images and me yappin' under the cut :)
I found that cover image a while ago and knew I wanted to use it for a Harry Potter fic. That silhouette of the willow against the dark blue background is just so beautiful! (I think the Whomping Willow doesn't appear at all in the fic, but the illustration still felt fitting because of the "Night" in the title, and also because of the generally dark vibes.)
I did mess up the cover a little: I glued the board with the cutout on upside down 🙃
The image was supposed to sit in the upper half of the cover so I had to improvise and add the title above it to balance things out.
Especially for multi-chapter fics with important authors' notes I like to include a Bonus Material section :) It feels a bit like being able to click through the behind the scenes extras on a DVD after watching a movie.
As always: Many thanks to the Renegade Bindery Discord Server @renegadeguild for opening up the world of fanbinding to me. And thank you to @tackytigerfic for writing this beautiful story and letting me bind it :)
@tackytigerfic has once again hit a home run with this fic. This cover does not do it justice, but I wanted to put something together so I could start rereading it. Can't wait to see all the wonderful art that is going to come from this fic because I know it's going to inspire so many. If you want plot AND feelings x 10000, go read this fic, I could not put it down. Go read it here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/61096510/chapters/156098803
There was a time when Harry and Malfoy were close — fighting for the same championship on different sides of the garage, but wearing the same colours. They were teammates.
And then Malfoy left.
