‘It ain’t fer everyone,’ Kind Heart repeated as she picked up the cup and, as if she knew her son was coming, turned and thrust Abernach’s drink into Patience’s hands right as he came out of the kitchen. ‘Patience, love. Tip this out an’ then put a new kettle on, right?’
‘Yes’m, Mam,’ Patience said obediently, casting a desperate look at Abernach before his mother pushed him back through the swinging doors.
