okay yeah i'm thinking about shimada and takinoue and how they're just local dudes who still casually enjoy volleyball and go play this pickup game because their friend somehow got roped into this temporary coaching job and then all of a sudden they're inspired and nostalgic about the ridiculous passionate things these high schoolers are saying—"as long as i'm here you're invincible!"
and then one of the kids who didn't even play in that practice match shows up at shimada's store and asks him to teach him jump float serves—which shimada doesn't even remember doing, let alone remember yamaguchi. and then he does!! he just takes time out of his workdays every week to teach this kid how to serve, and for no real reason other than that yamaguchi asked so earnestly
and so shimada and takinoue go to watch the tournament bc hey i guess their friend ukai has committed to this coaching thing and shimada has been kinda working with this yamaguchi kid for like a week now so sure that's a way to spend a saturday. and then the passion is on full display on the court again, as well as the devastation and shame not only of karasuno's loss but at the brutal truth that their skills just aren't enough yet, and yeah shimada and takinoue know those feelings too
so takinoue finds himself looking up game footage of opposing teams and collecting them together for ukai and the team to study, and then splicing together clips with soundtracks of karasuno doing their coolest shit so that they can see and feel how awesome they are—we've even seen him take over practices for ukai if he cant be there
and then shimada just takes his training with yamaguchi so seriously. they have a schedule, he's set up a net in the back area behind his store, he goes through different processes yamaguchi can use to get better not only physically but mentally too. and then he's in the stands crying and calling yamaguchi "my boy"—he's running around an entire arena sweating his ass off and embarrassing himself to shove an ipad into a plastic bag and hold it over his head just so that yamaguchi hopefully sees it and doesnt get swept up by his nerves
like these guys do everything they can for the team and for those kids. they ask for donations in their shops, they take time off work to travel to tokyo, they recruit their employees and other friends to watch the matches, and they go to every game. every single game
they aren't family. they aren't relatives of anyone on the team or even anyone at the school. they didn't have to do any of that. they're just some of ukai's friends who got inspired and made a difference

Part 5: A New Friend
Koganegawa has a small house in a welcoming neighborhood in Miyagi. Houses are lined up side by side, most with their gardens fenced in. Children are often found playing outside, especially true in the summer. It's only one neighborhood over from your apartment, but the area really does have a sweeter vibe to it.
As with anytime you come to Kogane’s house, you skip his road and go to the alleyway behind his home. His garage connects there and you’ve made a habit of parking in front of it and making your way in the back entrance rather than parking on the street out front.
When he invited you to come over today for movies and games, you assumed it would be him, you, and maybe Aone. So you find yourself caught a bit off guard when you’re met with an unusual guest when you step in the door.
“Hey, Kanji. I didn't bring Indigo-“ You pause, because that's not the blond you were expecting to see. “Oh! It's you. Uhm, Kyoutani, right?”
The man looks as grumpy as ever. Brows permanently furrowed over brown eyes traced in dark liner. Still with the theme of all black clothes and silver jewelry, mostly in his ears but also around his neck and a few fingers.
He hums affirmatively. “You’re Y/n, then? Thought I heard that name before.”
You give him a smile, setting down a bag of snacks on the counter that Koganegawa had requested. “Is Kogane home?”
Without moving from his spot at the kitchen island, he barks, “Kanji!”
You can hear Kogane practically lunge your way before his head pops in the doorway. “Kyouken? Oh! Y/n!”
The sudden noise makes something in you buzz and hum uncomfortably, but you quickly push it down. It’s just Kanji after all, and you love his bubbly personality.
With a smile you give him a quick wave.
“Ah! I’d introduce you two, but I think you’ve already met.” His smile could warm any room. “Oh, let me get those.”
While he’s busy unloading the treats you brought, you turn to Kyoutani. “Remember me from the shop?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool,” you stand there looking between the two blonds, not really sure what to say. “So you work with Kanji, huh?”
“That’s right.”
Short answers, huh..
You lean on your palms against the counter across from Kyoutani while looking at your friend. “Hey, Kogane, is Aone coming over?”
“Yup!”
Another quiet one.
Kogane grabs himself a treat and asks, “The boys busy?”
You smile as he happily munches on some matcha mochi. “Yeah, one has work and I don't know about the other one.”
A moment passes and awkwardness begins to creep up your shoulders while you stand there between the two men. Is the feeling thanks to none of you talking and there being a near-stranger in the room? You’d like to say it is. You shift your weight from one foot to the other, chewing your lip. “Uh, I think I’ll go get comfy in the living room.”
Picking a seat at one end of the sofa in Kogane’s living room, the one that sits right in front of a long window that faces the street outside. You pull your feet up into the seat and grab your phone to idly scroll through and let the tension in your shoulders die down.
It's not long before Kogane joins you, arms full of snacks. Kyoutani isn’t far behind, helping the other blond with the treats. The two chat away, though Kanji is doing most of the talking, as they get things situated. With some treats claimed in hand, Kanji takes a seat in an armchair, leaving the other man to sit on the opposite end of the sofa as you.
You mostly stay curled in on yourself as Kogane carries on the conversation, though you occasionally throw in some comments as well. Deciding to engage with the boys, you set your phone to the side and bring your focus to them. Watching as Kogane talks animatedly, talking with his hands and sitting at the edge of his seat. You catch glimpses at Kyoutani as well, the man sitting back into his corner of the sofa. Sitting quietly and mostly still while talking to his team mate.
The silver around his neck catches your eye, shining bright against black clothing. Your eyes trace the chains up his neck and over to the studs and small hoops on his ear before traveling over to the dark liner tracing his eyes.
“Takanobu is here!” Koganegawa looks up from his phone and announces, effectively pulling your attention from Kyoutani before you can get caught staring.
Your head whips to the window behind you and you see the large man walking away from his white Nissan with a drink carrier in hand. Your eyes sparkle at what appears to be to-go coffee cups. Parked in front of Aone’s truck is Kyoutani’s Subaru that you still find yourself to be in love with.
Koganegawa pulls you from your unbashful staring with a laugh. “I know you aren’t oogling Nobu.” He glances out the window and sees Aone with the drinks. “Oh! I’ll help him.”
You chuckle to yourself as he hops up to meet his friend at the front door. “No. The only thing I oogle is cars.”
You side-eye Kyoutani. You know he has to know you're referring to his car and not the truck. Turning fully to him, you give him a quick smile. “I gotta know what that wrap’s called. I’ve never seen a color like that. And the matte? Mm, really makes it.”
He’s the one with his phone in hand now. He looks at you with a brow raised, then back to his phone.
Koganegawa hops through the room with a drink in hand, while Aone walks up to you and offers you a coffee cup. “Here, it’s your favorite.”
Excited to have some coffee to wake you up a little more, and your favorite at that, you quickly grab it from his hand and bring it close to your lips. “Thank you!”
He leaves a canned drink of some sort on the end table next to Kyoutani before taking a seat in an armchair next to him.
“Matt Smaragd, if I’m saying that right,” the blond next to you says, brown eyes still on his phone. Before you can ask what he’s talking about, he continues, “From Platinum Wrapping Film.”
You pull your steaming cup away from your face. “Oh! Well, I love it. Very unique, but like, in a classy way. I was thinking about wrapping mine. Something bright and eye-catching, but now you’ve got me wondering if I should go with something more subtle. Maybe a deep burgundy or something.”
You watch Koganegawa return and sit on the floor in front of the TV and mess with a game system. You shrug, “Or maybe a bright-ass teal. I don’t know.”
“Movie or game?” Kogane asks, still on the floor.
“Do you ever talk about anything besides cars?” The slightest of smirks touches Kyoutani’s lips and it leaves you speechless for a second.
“Game.” Your eyes don’t leave the man across from you. You chortle, “And no, not really.”
“Game it is!” Kogane proceeds to toss you his second controller and set up the game.
“Don’t you have hobbies or something?”
You eye the man who’s suddenly talking more than you’ve ever heard from him.
Aone, the other quiet man, speaks up for you, “Yeah, but that also involves cars.”
You shoot him a surprised look and quickly try to defend yourself, “No! Not- Not all..”
Koganegawa laughs. “Right.”
He starts the game and looks over at Kyoutani. Apparently he’s chosen to play from the floor. “Her hobbies include no other than, talking about cars, working on cars - especially her Subie.”
You lightly shake your head with a grin.
He goes on, “Going to any sort of car events. Oh! Like those meetups! And, also trying to convince Takanobu to let her fix his truck.”
Kyoutani looks over at Aone. “What’s wrong with your truck?”
In the armchair, he half hides his face behind his coffee. “It’s fine..”
You only stare in Aone’s direction as you take the longest sip of your own coffee. Only blinking and looking away when Kogane laughs.
“You know, one of these days it could be fine. If you would just have someone look at it. If you feel like you’re bothering her-“
“You can’t,” you butt-in.
“Then go somewhere else,” he finishes and presses a button to start the game.
“Oh!” You quickly set your cup to the side and grab your controller. “That’s cheating! You gotta warn me before you start!”
The four of you chat and snack as Koganegawa wins several rounds against you until you’re tossing your controller to Kyoutani. He wordlessly joins in on Koganegawa’s game and appears to be a good match for him.
At some point you end up with a controller again, except now you’re playing against Aone. And is he going easy on you or is he just not very good at this game? He will never tell.
Kogane finally leaves the floor, careful to not block your view of the TV, and nudges you to scoot over. You thoughtlessly do so, focused on kicking Aone’s ass virtually. Not that you would want to in person, but after getting beat by Kogane match after match you’re enjoying the change of pace.
Taking your old spot, he taps a hand against the arm of the sofa along to the beat of the background song in the game. “Hey, Y/n, have you been to any of those meets recently?”
Eyes locked on the screen as you mash buttons on the controller, trying to win another fight against Aone’s character, you slowly process his question. “What? For cars? No. Haven’t heard of any in awhile.”
“Oh, yeah?” He’s definitely up to something. You can hear it in this voice, that upward inflection.
“Didn’t you say something about one coming up, Kyouken? Like on a Saturday night or something?”
You bite your lip and give the man a glare. You knew it. Your gut was right, he’s scheming up something. The sound of your character dying on screen breaks your stare.
“Aw, man!” You catch Aone’s smiling shyly to himself and you smile yourself. “Nice one, Takanobu.”
Kogane leans around you to catch Kyoutani’s eye as if prompting him to give an answer.
The man is quick to break eye contact, instead watching Aone stand and head to the kitchen. “Yeah.”
Feeling awkward as Kogane looks between you and the guy on the other side of you, you grab yourself one of Tendou’s macarons as a buffer to break your own tension. You let the delightful strawberry and almond tones fill your mouth and mind.
“Yeah, next weekend,” Kyoutani adds to your surprise, and you glance at him with a hand up to cover your mouthful of strawberry macaron.
Koganegawa elbows you to regain your attention. “What’s the chances of you having that Sunday off?”
“Low.” You gaze at Kyoutani again and lean back to get comfortable again. “Though, that’s never stopped me from enjoying my weekends anyway.”
Kyoutani glances between you and the schemer. He relaxes against the armrest, almost mimicking you. “Did you put him up to this?”
“What? No!” You glare at your friend again.
“If you wanna go, you just have to ask.”
“Huh? Well.. If you’re offering. I do miss those,” you reach across Koganegawa to grab your phone off a table, “Here, I guess since we’re friends now we could trade numbers, yeah?”
Kogane suddenly hops up from the sofa. “I’m gonna go help, Nobu! With whatever it is he’s doing.”
You watch him in disbelief as he leaves the room after putting you in this situation.
“Ready?” Kyoutani asks before telling you his number, letting you enter it into your phone.
Satisfied with the ding from his phone after you send him a simple text, you set your phone to the side again.
“Send me the info?”
“Sure.” He picks up Aone’s discarded controller and hands you yours. “Ready for another match?”
You smirk. “Yeah.”
It’s been a fairly busy day at the shop. Not insanely busy, but enough jobs lined up to keep you from getting bored. Today you get to work alongside Nishinoya, which has been rare lately, and Takinoue. Kiyoko is working up front as usual, and Keishin is around somewhere. You may or may not be avoiding him.
A man stands outside watching Nishinoya work on his Camry. He’s nearly finished with the service and asks you to help with little things while he wraps the job up, so you peek inside the driver’s door for the tire pressure and get to checking the tires for him.
You only add air to one tire before the man who owns the car speaks up, “How much air are you putting in those?”
Standing from your crouched position, you pause before continuing on to the next tire. You give him a short answer, “33.”
Adding air to the front driver tire now, you hear him ask another question, making your hair prick. “And how do you know that?”
I think I can handle putting air in the tires of your Camry, dude.
Nodding to the driver’s door, you try to hold back on giving the man sass, “If you open the driver door, there’s a sticker that tells you things like the recommended tire size and PSI. It says 33. I checked.”
The man sinks in on himself. “Oh.. I didn’t know that.”
You could have left it at that, and continued on without saying anything further. But instead, you went on while doing what Noya asked of you. “Yeah. Any car should have a sticker or two with info on the car, normally somewhere around the driver door jam.”
The owner of the Camry said nothing more as you wrapped things up with Noya, who doesn’t seem to have caught any of that little encounter thanks to his earbuds that you're sure is blasting music in his ears.
You go back and forth between working on cars on your own and helping either of the guys with whatever vehicles they were working on.
At some point, you find yourself pairing up with Takinoue on a tire job. A car came in for four new tires. The tires on it when it rolls in the garage are in rough condition. Worn bald or near bald, barely any tread left to them.
You pull the first wheel from the car. Rolling it to the tire machine, you see bits of silver poking out along one side. You're careful to move around the sharp, small wires as you move. You call out to Takinoue, “Hey, careful! This one has wires - watch the others.”
Breaking down the tires is simple enough with the help of hydraulics, working around damaged parts can add a little trouble though. Maneuvering the wheel so you can break down the bead on the other side, you’re met with a quick, sharp pain. You instinctively whip your hand back with a yelp.
“You were saying?” You hear Takinoue say while you inspect your finger to see if it’s bleeding.
“Damn wires,” you mutter. Though it hurts, your finger looks to be fine and you resume preparing the worn tire to be removed from the rim. Which you successfully do; however, moving the wheel around again, you notice a red line trailing down your palm and quickly move away to clean up in the back room before you get it anywhere.
The cut on your finger isn’t anything major at all. Just a little cut that wants to be dramatic. You get it quickly cleaned up and head back into the garage.
Quick as ever, Takinoue looks to have finished two tires already and starts on the third. “So wires did getcha, huh?”
“Heh. Yeah..”
“Besides your little yelp there, you totally bleed on that tire.”
“Gah! Sorry!” You run around to the fourth tire to help out, extra careful to not prick yourself again.
Today seems to be the day for oil changes and other basic maintenance. The oil change you just did involves a nice car in a not so nice state. When the owner came in, she informed Kiyoko that she could not remember when her car last had an oil change. She also mentioned the car was rattling and that she believed that meant it must be time to change the oil. Reading that on the service form may have made you cringe a bit at the thought.
And of course, when you started the car what you heard was worse than you imagined. Not that you thought it would be anything good - rattling, but you didn’t think the rattling she was talking about would be this loud. The poor engine.
After everything was said and done, you took the time to politely educate the woman on the importance of oil. Hopefully the car won’t be crying next time you see it.
Kiyoko offered a break from oil changes and handed you the keys to a Nissan Altima. No sooner than you sit down in the driver seat does a strong, particular smell hit your nose.
“Oh, that’s green,” you comment to yourself and pull into an open bay.
You’re quick to work through the simple job. The car is in due to the engine light being on. Reading the codes shows the light is one due to misfires, and given the miles on the car you gave the spark plugs a quick one over and determined they were most likely at fault. After getting permission from the owner, you swap out the spark plugs and coil packs for new ones.
Noya leans on the radiator shroud next to you and offers help. But you’re nearly finished with the car, so you ask if he’ll drive the car out. He’s quick to agree and hops in the car, only to immediately poke his head out the window. “Y/n! Have you been smoking weed in here or what?!”
You laugh. You thought with the windows down that the scent would die down some. Guess not. “Ah, sorry ‘bout that.”
Snickering as you walk up to Noya, him no longer half hanging out of the window, you lean against the door. “It was definitely me that left all the ash fucking everywhere too.”
As you watch Noya pull away in the Altima, you catch a male’s voice and look over your shoulder to see who you assume is the owner of the pickup truck resting in a bay at the other end of the garage.
“I didn't know there were any girls out here,” the man comments. He’s not looking back at you, so you assume he’s talking to whoever is working on what has to be a farm truck.
You quickly turn away and head for the back room when you see Keishin appear from the other side of the truck.
“Hm? Oh, yeah, that’s Y/n. She is really good.”
A small grin tugs at the corners of your lips as you push through the door, leaving the garage.
The night comes around that you and Kyoutani are supposed to be meeting up at a parking lot along a touge road for a mini car meet. It’s late. The sky is pitch black and there’s a light fog that seems to glow under the streetlights and headlights through town. The meet is outside Miyagi, so you have a little bit of a drive but you don't mind. Tonight is for driving after all, and you love it.
As you get closer to the location, more and more cars that catch your eye seem to be heading in the same direction as you. Before you know it you’re following a RX-8. You’re nearly drooling over it just seeing the tail end until you pull into a parking lot filled with a couple dozen cars.
You drive around slowly as you look for a dark green WRX, though you’re sure it’s going to look closer to black as dark out as it is, unless your new friend parks under a light or someone’s headlights shines its way. As you drive around you notice the majority of the cars here are Subarus. From WRX’s plus STI’s to old Forester’s and Legacy’s. The mods on these cars bring out the personalities of their owners, and it's something you love to see. But there are plenty of other cars that aren’t Subarus too - like that Mazda you followed in that now has a woman climbing out of the driver side, which has you grinning to yourself.
There really aren’t that many cars, so when you don't spot your friend’s car, you find yourself a spot and get parked. If he’s running late there’s no reason for you to not get a closer look at these mesmerizing machines. So you hop out of your own car and make your rounds ogling the exteriors and trying to discreetly peek under any open hoods.
Two more cars pull in and catch your eye. An older Impreza looking perfectly classic and a newer WRX in a darker color with a STI wing. You stop making rounds, halting in checking out cars like a perverted old man would college girls, and focus on the darker of the two cars. It’s crawling through the lot much like you had when you arrived and the headlights appear to be the stinkeye shape associated with his model year.
Maybe you should get back to your car.
You parked kind of off to the side and under a light in hopes to be easier seen, but it looks like it had another use as well. The dark WRX parks right behind your crystal white one, and the light shining down from the streetlight above gives you a better look at the car as you approach it. Pulling in it looked nearly black, but now you can see the green shining shyly in the night. You quickly walk over to your car and its new parking buddy.
There’s no way this STI does not belong to one Kyoutani Kentarou, but his dark window tint looks even darker at night. You’re close by and looking through the windshield, but before you can get a good look, the very man you were looking for gets out of the car.
“Hey!” You wave with a toothy grin. “I was hoping you’d actually be here. Glad you found my car.”
Kyoutani glances at the white WRX before him. “You know there’s like 3 white one’s here, right? I didn’t know it was yours.”
You laugh. “Well, you coulda lied and said you knew and I wouldn’t have known otherwise. And I only saw one other white one and it was an STI.” You lightly kick at one of your tires. “Mine’s not.”
He eyes your car again, assumingly looking between the STI wing and missing STI badge. You watch him for a second or two before shrugging. “I just like how it looks. I had considered getting an STI instead, but decided against it. Besides, my drive to work is punishing enough in a WRX. I imagine the STI would be even more so.”
Shoving his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket, he leans against a fender of his car. “Don’t take the freeway? Heavy traffic?”
“Mhmm,” you shake your head. “In town, lots of stops, slow traffic. I wish I took the freeway. Work’s too close to home though. Wouldn’t make sense to.”
“Being good with cars, I thought yours would be modded more.”
The comment catches you off guard briefly, but then you chuckle. “Ah, no, I didn't do much cosmetic wise - though I have a few things on the way. Most of what I’ve done is under the hood. She may look mostly stock at first glance, but that’s not quite the case.”
You give him a wink and stand next to him, admiring the wrap on his car with a hand running lightly along the satin finish. “This was really well done, by the way. Love it with the black rims and blacked out lights. Ah - I did black mine out too!”
He watches how you sway and move your hands when you talk about something you’re excited about. Much the opposite of how you were when he saw you at Koganegawa’s or at your work. “Thanks. I didn’t really do anything much on mine. Not myself anyway.”
The sound of multiple engines roaring rips through the night air as some cars whip out of the parking lot and a few more start up.
You look from the taillights flying away to the man beside you. “So. Are we driving or just chilling here?”
And somehow you ended up following him out onto the road instead of the other way around, but you have no problem with that. You watch the smoked taillights as you both zoom down the curvy road, a few others from the meet up joining you. You always find this sort of thing exciting. Being able to let your car stretch its legs like it was made to do instead of the slow, stop and go you subject it to on the daily. Hearing the engine and everything about how the car feels out on this road just feels right.
The road has many curves and dips, but most aren’t too sharp. Though, when you do come across a sharper turn, that’s when you see it.
The man knows how to drift.
Okay, he just got hotter.
Wait, what-
After quite some time, the train of cars ahead of you turn into a new parking lot and you follow suit, parking side by side with the green STI. Hopping out of your car, you rest your forearms on the edge of Kyoutani’s car and peer down into the window. Not that you can see anything other than your reflection.
You’re dying to ride shotgun now that you know he can drift. You can too, on dirt at least, but doing so at night with a lot of cars stirs up your nerves. Plus, you don't have the right tires on your car at the moment anyway. But he shouldn’t either. Just as you look to the side, trying to get a look to see if the tires are the ones you mounted for him, he rolls a window down.
“What’s up?”
“Uhm,” you shake your sudden thoughtlessness away, “I didn't know you could drift. Can I ride with you for a bit?”
His eyes narrow. “I thought you didn't want to stay out too late ‘cause you have work.”
“That’s still true. But just a little wouldn't hurt, yeah?”
You hear the click of the doors unlocking. “Sounds like a yes?”
Hopping in, you feel backwards. You’ve been in this car before, but only ever in the driver's seat and never accompanied by another. Actually, you’ve only been in the driver’s seat of any of these cars. None of your friends ever drove your car, not that you would have cared. Tendou really doesn’t like driving in general. Koganegawa gets too nervous in the driver’s seat of another person’s car. Your car isn’t Aone’s speed. And while the boys at work have driven your car here and there, you were never in it when they did.
But it’s not a feeling you hate. In the dark leather seat next to Kyoutani you get to relax while also feeling exhilarated by the rumble and power of this car. Your cars might be similar, but you’re well aware this one is a step up from your own.
And the view to your right of a very focused man switching gears with ease is a nice addition. He drives this car, it doesn’t drive him. He’s using this car as intended as he speeds down the touge. It’s like seeing a horse run free that’s often kept couped up in the stables.
When he throws the car into a perfect drift around a corner, it’s even more mesmerizing than when you were watching from your own car.
As silently promised, Kyoutani doesn’t stray too far from the lot where your car awaits you. Which is probably for the best, you do have work in the morning. You gaze out the passenger window at your WRX, white pearl glimmering under the lights shining from a silver and black Legacy parked in front of it.
“It’s after 11,” Kyoutani says.
“Yeah. I should probably get going.” You pat his arm, delaying leaving the car. “Hey, thanks for this. It was nice going to one of these with someone I know.”
He doesn’t return your smile, not that you expected mister stoic to. Instead, he looks out at the Legacy and older Forester by its side, music booming from either car. “Yeah, well, invite me sometime then.”
You perk, “Oh! Yeah, of course. Sorry I couldn’t stay long this time.”
Exiting the dark green Subaru, you hear his voice again. “Text me when you get home. Some of these guys drive like idiots.”
You stare at him through the open window, your own driver door open now. Kyoutani, the quiet, standoffish man who looks mean as they come, is worried about you making it home.
Huh.
“See you around, Kyoutani!” You get into your own car and start the engine, letting it’s rumble join the crowd once more. You give him a wave before pulling away, though you’re not sure he can see you between your dark windows and his darker ones. As you drive away, you glance at your rear view mirror at your new friend.
Well, that was better than expected.
>> To Kyoutani: “home safe :)”
Unlocking your front door and pushing in, you're met with the sound of something playing on the TV.
You call out, “Satori! I’m back!”
In the living room Tendou and Ushijima and your dog are all piled on the too small sofa.
“Hey hey! How was your date? I didn’t think you’d be home yet. Or at all~” The smirk on Tendou’s face has you rolling your eyes.
“Not a date. And hello,” you greet the other man, who waves back without a word. Indigo is passed out on one end of the sofa, so you leave him be.
“Uh huh. Does that mean nothing.. spicy happened?”
“Not at all.” You strip to your shirt and underwear as you head down the hall. “It was fun going with someone else that likes cars though.”
In the bathroom you start up the shower and check your phone while ridding your body of the last of your clothing.
>> From Kyoutani: “good”
With a quiet laugh, you set your phone to the side in favor of the shower calling your name.
A muffled voice sounds from the other side of the bathroom door, “Y/n! Don’t leave clothes everywhere!”
Chuckling at the exasperated Tendou, you step into the shower and let the hot water help you decompress from the day.
After getting all cleaned up and wrapping yourself in a fluffy towel, you walk out into the hall and peek around the corner into the living room. The couple are still watching a movie, but Indigo is no longer curled up with them.
You whisper as if you’re trying to not disrupt their movie too much, “Hey, I’m off to bed. Got work tomorrow.”
At the sound of your voice, Indigo trots up to you. When he nudges your hand with his nose, you roughly pet his head just the way he likes.
The two look over to you. Tendou smiles, “Sweet dreams, paradise~”
“Yes, sweet dreams,” Ushijima adds.
You don’t even bother holding back your smile at the two. “I’d say sweet dreams too, but I wonder if you’ll even be sleeping.” You arch a brow with a smirk. “Good night you two. Indy, come on.”
The oversized pup follows you to your room and jumps into bed while you throw on something to sleep in and plug in your phone next to your pillow. You crawl under the blankets and keep an arm above the covers to wrap around your fluffy friend.
Setting an alarm on your phone, you send a couple quick texts.
>> To Kyoutani: “good night :)”
>> To Kyoutani: “get home safe”

Hey can I request some high school/college au headcanons for Ukai, Takinoue, Shimada, and Akiteru? Like studying with a s/o? Thank you 💕
I had started these on paper somewhere, but I have no idea where they went. So, grrrr, to that. But I hope these are just as good as my original ideas!
Enjoy, Anon!
P.s. I GOT A JOB AS A TEACHER STARTING NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
P.s.s. I’m procrastinating like crazy. I have Masters assignments that are due and I DON’T WANNA. I’m trying to celebrate!
Keishin Ukai
Considering Ukai’s own confession on his academic skills, I really don’t think studying was his forte. Really, I don’t think anything in his usual routine has much to do with academics. So you better damn bet that his significant other needs to step in a LOT to try and get his grades back on schedule.
I bet Ukai’s mom was even in on the studying arrangement when he was in high school. He’d walk in the door and when asked what work he has, he’ll say he has nothing only to discover his significant other has already stopped by and gave his mom a list of everything they’ll be working on for the evening.
He’ll get his work done, it’s not the best work and he doesn’t get the best grades, but he can’t say that he doesn’t enjoy his study time with his significant other. I can see them using kisses as bribes to get him to do his work and I’m sure it’s filled with laughter and footsie fights, which is definitely something that continues on into college.
Yusuke Takinoue
I like to actually think of Takinoue as being the one who initiates all the study groups. He’s calling and texting everyone and nudging people in class to try and get things together. But when it actually comes to the studying that is supposed to be taking place, he’s the last one participating. Instead, he’s talking about that new show he started watching or asking everybody what snacks they want.
Dude just loves hanging out with his friends, but academics takes precedence. But, like, who’s going to pass up the chance to have study group to bounce ideas off of each other? So, he gathers everyone together and somehow manages to turn it into any other hangout. And no one understands where they stopped studying and started debating about who can shove the most Hot Cheetos in their mouth.
This is probably how he ends up going on his ‘first date’ with his significant other. He asks them if they want to study with him and they’re all for it because Chemistry is hard and then when they are actually in the midst of it, they spend the whole time just talking and laughing. They like him and he likes them, but goddamn, that can definitely not happen again after THAT grade they got on the test! They prohibited all study groups with him until the class was over. Only then did they start dating!
Makoto Shimada
Totally the mom of the whole study group. It’s been his title since he was in high school and probably got worse when he got into college. He’s running everything and making sure that everyone remains on task. He’s also the one that is asking you the same question over and over again even though you keep answering ‘I DON’T KNOW.’
Oh, and he’s also the one that gets super disappointed when his friends come back with bad marks. He just frowns and shakes his head and you can see the disappointment radiating from him, but he doesn’t quite say it. His significant other totally calls it his ‘Mom’ look, which is where the initial nickname comes from.
Omg, I can see that being something that carries on into his adulthood and his significant other always teases him about it! Like, just imagine in they have kids! And their children even start calling him ‘mom’ because of it. “Better be careful, you’re gonna call out his inner mom.”
Akiteru Tsukishima
This sweet muffin. I can see him being the one in the group that is always trying to come up with creative ways to remember things. Like songs or a game that they can play during study sessions that not only make learning more fun, but makes it easier for everyone to remember.
Haha, just imagine him walking around campus staring at his shoes when he walks while mumbling a rap song about the periodic table under his breath and trying to bob his head in some rhythm. I totally bet that’s the thing that catches his significant other’s attention. Like, who is this adorable dork who enjoys rapping about periodic elements?
AHHH. Now I just want them to make a YouTube channel while they’re in college that is just based around making up cheesy educational songs for students to utilize during their studies! Like, Akiteru is the mastermind behind the lyrics and his significant other is the editing master behind it all! They make a great team!
