The only surviving cat of a litter of four, Swiftclaw was assumed special since birth. When the last spiritual deputy died (Lemonspirit), Flaxstar chose him, even though he wasn’t an Ultimate warrior. She justified the questionable act by saying it’d be good to have a young, active leader for once. Swiftclaw doesn’t enjoy the spiritual deputy duties, but he can’t really complain: he would’ve had to wait on Firemane to die to get the battle deputy spot, and everyone knows he’s the best fighter in the clans.
