PJ Kwong, Matsuoka Shuzo, Nobu & former coach Tanaka on Yuzuru Hanyu (Asahi 2017-18 Grand Prix Official Guidebook)
Mentions of Yuzuru from the Asahi Figure Skate 2017-2018 Grand Prix Series Official Guidebook, kindly posted on junjunjun’s blog here.

Tanaka Soshi, pro skater, coach
(Coached Yuzuru on jumps when he was in junior high school)
“He often failed, popped and fell. So much that [you wouldn’t have seen] a trace of the Yuzuru Hanyu today. Now, his triple Axels are effortless and ideal. It seems that he’s even rotating quad Axels. That, although the landings aren’t rock solid, he was able to stand on one foot.”
“I don’t think he has to force the 4Lz. On the contrary, if he challenges it and makes a mistake, there’s the possibility that other skaters could overtake him. I would like for him to cinch his win, with solid jumps and the assured air of a champion.”
PJ Kwong
“I did figure skating at Cricket Club and, afterwards, having spent around 30 years as a coach, became an announcer at sporting events such as the Olympics. I was also the announcer at the Sochi Olympics when Yuzuru got the gold medal.”
“I saw Yuzuru when he was a Junior, and I’ve continued to see his steady growth since 2011. When he was young, he was unrefined and there was a brittleness and a precariousness in the landings, etc. The performance too – it was as if he was covering the music and there wasn’t a sense of unity with the notes, but now he is one with the music.”
“SEIMEI is a work of art, an extraordinary, wonderful program. It’s unique, the theme is great, the technique is there. It’s got everything. Yuzuru is able to integrate the sport and the artistry to create something special. When the light comes into those eyes, [you just think] something is going to happen, he’s going to give you an unforgettable moment.”
Matsuoka Shuzo
(excerpted from his regular series in this magazine)
–––– You were talking to Yuzuru Hanyu just now.
“Yes. I thought that this Olympic season might be, to Hanyu-senshu, one that is a culmination of sorts so I asked him, but there was no such feeling. What I most strongly felt from Hanyu today was his determination towards victory. A spirit that says, 'Definitely winning at Pyeongchang!’ I also got the impression that, in terms of what he should do in order to [achieve his victory], he’s thinking far more deeply than I’d anticipated.”
–––– But Hanyu usually gives off a soft impression, so what do you think is the root of this strength you mentioned?
“I have never thought of Hanyu as a soft person, not even once. He is someone with an inquisitive mind, a spirit of inquiry. His emotional attachment toward ‘winning,’ too, is twice as strong as everybody else's. Valuing the act of challenging over the results––there’s also such ways of thinking, but Hanyu is an athlete who takes results seriously.”
Oda Nobunari
(excerpted from an interview on his outlook of the men’s discipline)
–––– At the moment, Yuzuru Hanyu has reigned in the Grand Prix Final for the past 4 years. What is Hanyu’s strength?
“The wonderful thing about him is that he is top-notch no matter [which aspect] you look at; there are no weak spots. If we speak of jumps, he’s able to unleash difficult but high quality jumps, smoothly, without any actions that scream ‘I am gonna jump!’, all the while maintaining his performance. Spins and steps and transitions between elements, skating skills too, are perfect. I think, no doubt, one skater who is capable of––that has accomplished––the best performance under the current competitive rules of figure skating.”
–––– Hanyu revisits SEIMEI for his free program. Aren’t there risks?
“I’ve also used the same music several times, but if we’re to speak of why, it’s because it is a very good fit for yourself. Such performances, [when the program is a good fit] can become more and more likable even to the judges. Especially in the case of Hanyu, where he has increased the number of quads to 5, and I hear there’s been quite some adjustments to the transitions and the step sequences – parts of the program that create an impression. Since it’ll become a very evolved layout, the impression is bound to completely change as well.”
“And again, this is the Olympic season, so it’s also critical that skaters can compete with a good mental image in mind. SEIMEI had been skated perfectly twice, and I think it’s also a program with the music deeply ingrained into the body. I got an impression of ‘I’m headed towards the Olympics for the win.’”

the little banner thingies (i forgor the name im sorgy) of both watashime slug and the rockers were made by @rockintapper IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY🙏
if you ever wanted to print watashime slug pictures to hang in your room, i got you babygirl. let me spoil you
the black lines are supposed to be some kind of mark at the moment you print. they have to be visible, otherwise the picture might get cut out and look like ass. for that, make sure the option that says "frame image" is NOT selected, so it prints the whole picture. and a little recomendation, the pictures you may see with a little frame there, is so you see where to cut, try to follow the lines- if you want to have mini CDs, glue them to pieces of cardboard. for the rh fever disc picture, be careful and cut around the cd edges, and on the inside if you want to have a little challenge www
have fun lol
