Finally decided to make myself a decent tarot reading mat during quarantine. And yes, I also had to make 2 matching pouches for my decks - one for the regular size Rider Waite deck, the other one is for the mini Tarot de Marseille deck. Used dark blue velvet and lace from an old curtain. I'm aware that the tassels did not match with the color of the lace but I want to keep them that way. This was made during the first few weeks of the quarantine, when everyone was freaking out and all stores were closed. It reminds me of the scarcity of essential resources (toilet paper, hand sanitizer, water, and tassels) and that weird apocalyptic feeling. Just adds extra character, and that's exactly what you need for a tarot mat, ya know...

Okay so it’s totally impossible for you to have known that I have, like, a soul-deep obsession with blue velvet but this speaks to me extremely hard.

I love the upcycling and it’s not that the tassels don’t match it’s that they’re complimentary, not colormatched.

This is lovely and I’m glad you spent a scary time making something that helps to ground you.

So a friend recently introduced me @thewitchofwonderlust via youtube videos and I thought it was a pretty cool idea to make a tarot mat just like she showed, so here's my crack at it. All hand sewn(couple of hours of work there :) ) and I really did like the Chat Noir cloth she used so I went and found it at Joanne's too. But yeah! There it is, with my tarot cards on it.
