tarot-witch replied to your post: holy FUCK how to get away with murder ...
should i watch it? i’m looking for a new tv show to start.
yes!!! I just finished the first episode and it was soooo good. very stylistic, very "what's going on" sort of thing. watch it with me so we can send each other theories about wtf is happening xox
✹ [friendship]
thank you!! except for this one I'm going to cheat and switch the books and films; I'll do 1 book rec and 3 film recs because to be honest, most of the novels I've read that immediately make me think of friendship are YA novels and I am not prepared for the world to know about my closeted love of Sarah Dessen :'))
3 Films:
Ferris Bueller's Day Off, dir. by John Hughes; okay so essentially every John Hughes film ever is somewhat about friendship, so instead of talking about 3 of his films, I just chose my favorite. I feel like most people on this planet have seen Ferris Bueller, but on the off-chance anyone was like me and has taken awhile to get around to seeing it (I only saw it for the first time 3 years ago), then do it now. It's one of those feel good films that make the world seem so much brighter and I absolutely adore it.
Kiki's Delivery Service, dir. by Hayao Miyazaki; Kiki is my go-to movie when I'm sad or sick or tired of everyone around me and I just want to pretend to be someone else for awhile... so I pretend to be a young teenage girl who leaves her family to train to become a better witch. The heart of this film is friendship and the characters are so rich and wonderful and it's so good ok I love it
Dazed and Confused, dir. by Richard Linklater; I love this film more than I should and I cannot even tell you why?? perhaps it has to with the fact that it makes me entirely wish I was part of the group of friends this film follows and it's so funny and lighthearted and I adore the football field scene with all of my heart
3 Songs:
Topeka by Ludo; this is one of my all-time favorite songs and there's something very summery about it -- like the end of summer sort of vibe -- and for some reason I associate that with friendship. now I'm listening to this and I haven't heard it in awhile and it just makes me feel something and I'm sure there's a French phrase to describe it but for now it's just a really nice and warm feeling
Tiny Dancer by Elton John; HAHAHAH surprise surprise yet another Almost Famous reference!! but the Tiny Dancer scene is the epitome of friendship and family and love and I cry every fucking time but I also just associate Elton John's music as being the kind you blast with friends while dancing really horrendously
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol; oh god okay this is embarrassing but I'm going for gold anyway. so I feel like at some point, everyone's loved this song and thought it was soooo romantic and lovely, but one night I was at this house party and things started to get too stuffy, so I took off with some people who I had just met that night. we ended up running through some church and ended up at a Wendy's where we all orded Frostys, and finally we headed back towards the party, but somehow or another we ended up blasting this song from someone's phone and we all sprawled down in the middle of the street under some streetlights and looked up at the stars and it was about as cheesy as you can get but it just felt right so THERE'S A NOVEL ON FRIENDSHIP
1 Book Rec:
Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo; I almost wrote about The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, which is also by DiCamillo, but Tiger Rising is a quiet novel about the friendship between two young kids who both have lost a lot and stand to lose a lot more and just thinking about it makes me feel hollow and sad but it's also beautiful and that's just how life works sometimes
