Ernie and his father Robert Macmillan had an amazing relationship, and Ernie’s dad was the most caring man that the boy has ever met. The man always had a nice thing to say about even the worst of people, something that Ernie was never able to understand. His dad truly exemplified what it means to be a Hufflepuff by his words, actions, and sacrifices. Robert was the one that pushed Ernie to go to Hogwarts during his 7th year even though Ernie would come across problems and hardships worse than anything he’s ever encountered. Ernie had the power to help those who weren’t as fortunate as their own family, and his father wanted him to do the right thing and protect those individuals.
PARA SAMPLE:
“Dad, a bunch of my friends aren’t even going back to Hogwarts this year because of You-Know-Who and his fucking take-over.” Ernie was strongly for the idea of his family going into hiding to prevent themselves from going through the pain and hassle of worrying about Ernie at Hogwarts. The letters in the mail made it clear that attendance was mandatory but Ernie had refused to go to a school where death was certain to follow in some way.
Ernie was tired of having this argument with his parents and had stormed out of the house in absolute rage. He was being absolutely selfish. The last thing he wanted was for his family to be targeted while he was away, especially because they were already on the verge of being labeled blood traitors because of their belief that muggles and muggleborns were just as normal and worthy as themselves. Being friends with several Muggleborns themselves made their family victim of rumors and glaring eyes whenever they were out in public. They were never labeled blood-traitors like the Weasleys but it was bound to happen at some point.
“Ernest Macmillan, do you hear yourself right now?” His father’s voice could be heard behind him, quickly apparating in front of the boy to be sure Ernie was looking at him. “And I want you to look at me while I’m talking to you.” Ernie’s angry expression turned into a more neutral one, with his eyes meeting his father’s.
“We both know the only reason you want to stay here is to protect your mother and I. There’s no need to lie or act the way you are.” The man shook his head, eventually choosing to sit down in the grass where Ernie had been seated.
He was absolutely right. Ernie did want to be at Hogwarts, helping his friends, and being one of the people who helped rather then sit on the sidelines. Harry Potter wasn’t going to be at Hogwarts, and it was going to be up to the students who had some kind of conscious and brave spirits to not allow their school to turn completely into something that it wasn’t. There wasn’t much he could do on his own but even the smallest act could make a difference. His family came first through and through, and with his parents talking about moving to his father’s childhood home to be closer to the ministry only made Ernie fearful.
There was a long moment of silence with Ernie trying his best to fight back every negative emotion that wanted to show. A choice in the matter seemed to be out of the question, as Ernie’s parents would drag him on that train if it came down to it.
“You’re scared, Ernie. I understand that. You also need to realize that within that castle, you are among the only group of students who can help those in need. The professors will be obedient only because they are aware that their actions could get you all hurt and no adult that isn’t 100% trusted by Voldemort will be let into that castle.” The greater good was always in his father’s mind, which is why Ernie was more worried about his own father than himself. “And I expect you to help those students. It’s not about you, Ernie. You have to realize that whenever something like this happens you can’t keep putting your own feelings before everyone else’s.” Ernie only shook his head, keeping his father’s words in his mind while wanting to just avoid everything he said. His father had this gift of putting the right thing to do in Ernie’s head and only causing the boy to become more conflicted.
“We are going to Diagon Alley tomorrow to pick up your supplies, and it’s going to be done regardless of you being there to do it. I love you Ernie but we don’t need a selfish attitude in this house right now.”
His father had already began to walk away, and Ernie was left with his own thoughts and an eye full of tears.
This task is about faceclaims who are over the age of 40 because there’s a lack of resources and lack of people using older faceclaims in the roleplay community. There’s a masterlist below compiled of over 400 faceclaims categorised by gender with their ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. Want an extra challenge? Use random.org and pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever character or whichever project you desire.
Any questions can be sent here and resources have been linked below the cut for ease of access! REMEMBER to tag your resources with #TASKSWEEKLY and we will reblog them onto the main! This task can be tagged with whatever you want but if you want us to see it please be sure that our tag is the first five tags!
OUR ADVICE
Don’t whitewash people of colour - you can find several guides on our tutorial page. Try thinking of your favourite movies / TV shows and see if anyone is suitable for this task!
THE TASK
STEP 1: Decide on a FC / media you wish to create resources for! You can always do more than one but who / what are you starting with? There are links to masterlists you can use in order to find them and if you want help, just send us a message and we can pick something for you at random!
STEP 2: Pick what you want to create! You can obviously do more than one thing, but what do you want to start off with? Screencaps, RP icons, GIF packs, masterlists, PNG’s, fancasts, alternative FC’s - LITERALLY anything you desire!
STEP 3: Look back on tasks that we have created previously for tutorials on the thing you are creating, unless you have whatever it is you are doing mastered - then of course feel free to just get on and do it. :)
STEP 4: Upload and tag with #TASKSWEEKLY! If you didn’t use your own screencaps/images make sure to credit where you got them from as we will not reblog packs which do not credit caps or original gifs from the original maker.
